The advantages of this thermometer are the high resolution (about 1 xK), repeatability (a few ppm), the zero power dissipation and the insensitivity to radio frequency (RF) fields. The experimental realization is however quite complicated. [Pg.215]

The P° s of Dalton - Raoult are vapor pressures taken at fixed temperatures. They are the p s in the Clausius - Clapyron equation found with a variation in temperature. Don t believe me Pick a vapor pressure and temperature pair from Table 1 for either liquid, and let these be p° and T° (and don t forget to use K, not °C). Now what happens when the unknown temperature (T) is the same as T° The (1/T — 1/T°) becomes zero, the entire exponent becomes zero, p° is multiplied by 1 (anything to the power zero is 1, eh ) and so... [Pg.297]

Reactivity Control. The movable boron-carbide control rods are sufficient to provide reactivity control from the cold shutdown condition to the full-load condition. Supplementary reactivity control in the form of solid burnable poison is used only to provide reactivity compensation for fuel burnup or depletion effects. The movable control rod system is capable of bringing the reactor to the subcritieal when the reactor is an ambient temperature (cold), zero power, zero xenon, and with the strongest control rod fully withdrawn from the core. In order to provide greater assurance that this condition can be met in the operating reactor, the core is designed to obtain a reactivity of less than 0.99, or a 1% margin on the stuck rod condition. See Fig. 7. [Pg.1106]

Figure 13.6 schematically gives W, as a function of Qin and at the same time, the corresponding thermodynamic efficiency n = (Wout/Qm) has its highest value, the Carnot value, for an infinitely slow operation of the engine at a zero heat input rate Q but also at zero power output. Note that then T2 —> and T3 T0. The thermodynamic efficiency T is zero when Wout is zero, but now at the maximum possible heat input rate that the engine can absorb, namely, when T2 = T3. Somewhere between these extremes the power output... [Pg.207]

Windowed excitation selective excitation with uniform power over specified frequency range(s), and with zero power over other frequency range(s) (window(s)) for ICR signal suppression. [Pg.32]

It is proposed that the nodes be magnetized and the CCR oriented to a predefined direction [Kar 02, Kar 05]. When the nodes fall through the air after being deployed, they will orient themselves. If the network has a sufficient density of nodes, it may not need the nodes, which change orientation upon landing. This approach for zero-power orientation is even more efficient for nodes floating on the water. They could freely rotate to orient themselves. [Pg.189]

The dependence of the rate of reaction on the concentrations can often be expressed as a direct proportionality in which the concentrations may appear to the zero, first, or second power. The power to which the concentration of a substance appears in the rate expression (formula) is the order of the reaction with respect to that substance. Table 20-1 provides examples of rate expressions. [Pg.347]

There are some special cases of exponents. Any quantity (except zero) raised to the zero power equals one. Any quantity (except zero) to the -1 power is equal to the reciprocal of the quantity. [Pg.8]

Ideally, the likelihood of either type of error would be zero, or at least as low as possible. In reality, the possibility of making these errors cannot totally be eliminated, but their likely occurrence can be balanced one against the other. This is done by choosing various combinations of a and p, and therefore various combinations of a and power, since power is defined as 1 minus p. [Pg.131]

The external instruction to the SCR module is conventionally a 4 to 20 milliampere dc current from a control microprocessor, where 4 mA corresponds to zero power and 20 mA corresponds to full power. This signal is then translated by... [Pg.25]

In dealing with thermistors the following important relationships have to be taken into consideration the zero-power temperature coefficient of resistance aT (as defined in thermistor terminology MIL-T-23648A)f... [Pg.215]

Anything raised to the zero power yields T, therefore, this is a zero-order reaction for B. We can perform a similar procedure in experiments 3 and 1 to determine the reaction order for A. Since [B] is constant in experiments 3 and 1, we can cancel it ... [Pg.388]

Direct current (DC) can be stored in rechargeable electrochemical batteries (Pb acid, NiCd, Li ion cells). So far, alternating current (AC) cannot be stored practically, but must be generated and used as needed. Storing electrical currents in superconducting rings with zero power loss is possible, but not cost-effective (practical superconducting materials must be kept at... [Pg.504]
