Lean patients with gout were arbitrarily chosen as those with a ponderal index of more than 12.5. When their mean triglyceride level was compared with their matched controls, again, no significant difference was apparent (Table 2) ... 

There are formulas which are mathematical expressions used to estimate some characteristic for example, a formula for body surface area or a formula for a ponderal index, an index of slenderness. 

This quantity may also be calculated using metric units. However, the values so obtained cannot be compared with those obtained using English units because the ratios of the height to weight units differ between the two systems of measurement. Table 1 includes neonatal outcome variables reported to be significantly related to low-level maternal, placental, cord, or very early infancy PbB in one or more studies. Case reports and some older studies that include additional adverse outcomes, usually as a result of high-level exposure (Rom, 1976), have been excluded. To save space. Table I excludes reports of assessed outcome measures not significantly related to PbB in any study in the review. These variables are pre-eclampsia, spontaneous abortion, foetal distress, ponderal index, intrauterine growth retardation, meconium staining, Apgar scores, jaundice, blood type, sex of infant and most scales of the Brazelton Newborn Assessment Scale.
