The highly filled polyurethane joints that were studied are described in Fig. 24.8 [20]. The polymer chains on both sides of the interface are hydroxytelechelic poly butadiene chains (HTPBs). On the one hand, we have PUg in which the main additives are diisocyanate (isophorone diisocyanate) and 80% of reinforcing fillers (aluminum and potassium chloride). On the other hand, PUa contains the same diisocyanate and only 20% of reinforcing filler (carbon black). [Pg.398]

Using a mixture of castor oil and hydroxyether of bisphenol-A (HBA) as the polyol and reacting with TDI in the presence of DBTDL catalyst at 35°C, a series of polyurethanes are prepared in an air-circulating oven for 48 h. A series of poly(urethane urea)-vinyl polymer hybrid aqueous dispersions are prepared. Waterborne poly(urethane urea) is synthesised from castor oil and polyoxypropylene polyol M = 1000 g moL ), dimethylol propionic acid and isophorone diisocyanate and then neutralised with tertiary amine. The hybrid aqueous dispersion with high oil content poly(urethane urea) exhibits excellent compressive mechanical strength. Sunflower oil-modified waterborne polyurethane resin may also be prepared. The waterborne resin is synthesised from the monoglyceride of the oU, poly(propylene-ethylene) triol, tartaric acid and toluene diisocyanate, then neutralised with triethyl amine. [Pg.166]

Chemistry Polyurethane is produced by the reaction of a polyol with an diisocyanate (or in some instances a polyisocyanate) in the presence of catalysts. The polyols of choice are poly(propylene glycol), block copolymers of ethylene oxide (10-15%) with propylene oxide, or the newer polymer polyols (based on polymers such as polystyrene or styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer). Polyester diols such as polycaprolactone diol can be used in place of the polyether polyol in this reaction. The isocyanate of choice is a mixture of the 2,4 and 2,6 isomers of tolylene di-isocyanate in the ratio of 80 20, generally referred to as 80 20TDI. Other isocyanates such as diphenylmethane di-isocyanate (MDI), hexamethylene di-isocyanate (HMDI), and isophorone di-isocyanate (IPDI) are also used. A tin-based or amine catalyst is used to promote the reaction. Given the wide choice of reactants available, the reaction can yield foams with a range of different mechanical and thermal characteristics. [Pg.115]
