Polymers with Inherent Antimicrobial Properties

Pol)nners having inherent antimicrobial or antistatic properties can be applied or used in conjimction with a wide variety of substrates [Pg.67]

Such properties are imparted by applying a coating or film formed from a cationically-charged polymer composition compris- [Pg.67]

Chitosan, modified chitosans or chitosan salts can be incorporated into the compositions. Chitosan is a naturally occurring amino-functional saccharide which is known to be antimicrobial. Moreover, chitosan could also serve the dual purpose of ako providing steric stabilization. [Pg.68]

Other antimicrobial agents include metal biocides such as silver, zinc, etc. and salts. Organic compounds are chlorohexidine de-rivates, dodecyl diethylenediamine glycine, phenolic compoimds, polymeric guanidines. [Pg.68]
