Polymers, liquid crystalline thermotropic type synthesis

Iimura, K., Koide, N., Ohta, R. and Takeda, M. Synthesis of thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers, 1, azoxy and azo-type polyesters. Makromol. Chemie 182, 2563 (1981)... [Pg.56]

The article covers synthesis, structure and properties of thermotropic liquid-crystalline (LC) polymers with mesogenic side groups. Approaches towards the synthesis of such systems and the conditions for their realization in the LC state are presented, as well as the data revealing the relationship between the molecular structure of an LC polymer and the type of mesophase formed. Specific features of thermotropic LC polymers and copolymers of nematic, smectic and cholesteric types are considered. [Pg.173]

Novel organometallic poly(arylene)s with 1,3-type (cyclobutadiene)cobalt moieties 27 in the main chain are prepared by Ni(0)-mediated dehalogenative polycondensation of monomers having (cyclobutadiene)cobalt moieties [51], The polymers with of 20 kDa exhibit thermotropic liquid crystallinity. The synthesis of a variety of homometallic and heterometallic oligomers and polymers such as 28 is possible via nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions of dichlorophenylene-Fe Cp and dihydroxyphenylene-Ru Cp complexes in DMF in the presence of K2CO3 [52]. [Pg.238]

This book does not intend to cover the whole field of thermotropic liquid crystalline (TLC) materials as it is extremely difficult to cover within a single book. Instead it presents a collection of Chapters written by experts on various exciting topics in the field. Properties of recently developed TLCs (such as banana-type, thiophene-based, and columnar TLCs), phase biaxiaUty, and novel polymeric TLCs are discussed In detail. Solid-state NMR studies to obtain atomistic-level structural and geometrical information of TLCs are presented. Synthesis of liquid crystalUne conjugated polymers, fast switching of nematic materials by an electric field, and photoconducting discotic systems are also presented. [Pg.10]
