Polymer coating method character

XPS examination of the interphase between a polymer coating and low carbon steel. The preparation method is shown schematically on the left hand side the change in shape of the Fe2p3/2 spectrum, as the interphase is approached showing significant Fe(ll] character, is shown on the right... [Pg.226]

All plasticizers used in this study are commonly used for the application of polymer coatings as well as for matrix systems [31-33,45-47]. TEC is the standard plasticizer for Eudragit RS with a maximum water solubility of 5%, underlining its hydrophilic character. ATBC was chosen due to its structural similarity compared to TEC, but with an increased lipophilic character. The third plasticizer, the double butylated decanedicarboxy acid (DBS), has a similar lipophilic character as ATBC, but the different molecular structure allows for an additional testing of our computational method. [Pg.247]

Polymerization in electrostatic systems like the ones mentioned above is stericaUy inhibited by alkyl substitution at the a-carbon which must assume a coordination number greater than 4. Coates and Glockhng have treated this inhibition of polymerization in terms of decreased electronegative character of the branched alkyl groups. Therefore, stimulated by the idea that f-afkylhthium compounds may exist as low polymers or even as monomeric molecules, Weiner and coworkers and Kottke and Stalke have isolated f-butyllithium as a pure substance for the first time and characterised it by spectroscopic methods and X-ray diffraction. The colourless crystalline solid was found to be tetrameric over a range of concentrations in both benzene and hexane ... [Pg.232]

Hydrophobic membranes can be used to extract organic solvents or VOCs from water. The membranes are made of hydrophobic cross-linked polymers. These compounds are repelled by water and are usually neutral (no charge). Membranes with hydrophilic character can be changed to hydrophobic by grafting or coating the hydrophobic molecules on the surface and by other methods as well. These membranes are generally used for the removal of VOCs from aqueous stream. [Pg.269]

In a non-electrochemical method with N4 type complexes, Kimura et al. [50] detected volatile organic compounds using a Quartz Crystal Microbalance coated with SAM s of nanostructured macromolecular metal complexes of Co-Pc, Ni-Pc, Cu-Pc or Zn-Pc in the form of polymer brushes. The method was based on the highly hydrophilic character of the brushes and on their good performance as anion exchangers... [Pg.340]
