Polyamides modifiers

Another significant end-use for polyamines is in preparation of paper wet-strength resins. These are polyamide, modified formaldehyde, and polyamine resins used to improve the physical strength of tissue, toweling, and packaging paper products. The cationic formaldehyde resins include both urea—formaldehyde and melamine—formaldehyde types (248,249). Cationic functionaHty is imparted by incorporation of DETA, TETA, and/or TEPA in... [Pg.47]

Aromatic polyamides modified with phosphine oxide groups have been synthesized also by condensation of bis(4-carboxyphenyl)phe-nylphosphine oxide but with various aromatic diamines.39-40... [Pg.115]

Polyethylene and Polypropylene Acceptable bonds have been obtained between treated polyolefin surfaces with polar adhesives, such as epoxies, or solvent cements containing synthetic rubber or phenolic resin. The solvent adhesives are applied to both surfaces and the solvents allowed to evaporate before the parts are joined. Recommended epoxies are the anhydride-cured and amine-cured types. Also suitable is a two-component, polyamide-modified epoxy compound. Other adhesives that provide adequate bond strength to treated polyolefins include styrene-unsatmated polyester and solvent-type nitrile-phenolic (15). [Pg.273]

Oxidizing alkyds have been modified by reacting with a variety of other components vinyl-modified, silicone-modified, phenolic-modified, and polyamide-modified alkyds are the most common examples. [Pg.442]

Polyamide-modified alkyds are nsed as thixotropic agents to increase the low shear viscosity of alkyd resin based paints. Topically, abont 10% of a polyamide resin made from diamines snch as 1,2-ethanediamine (ethylenediamine) with dimer acids is reacted with an alkyd resin. High sohds thixotropic alkyds based on polyamides made with aromatic diamines have been developed, which give superior performance in high sohds alkyd coatings (36). [Pg.443]
