Traveling-wave dielectrophoresis — A special case of -> dielectrophoresis where particles can be moved along an extended array of electrodes. The translational force is created by energizing the electrodes with poly-phase voltages to create an electrical traveling wave, as depicted below. [Pg.683]

SINGLE PHASING - The condition when one phase of a multiphase (poly-phase) motor circuit is broken or opened. Motors running when this occurs may continue to run but with lower power output and over heating. [Pg.135]

The chemical and ionic-size similarity governs also here. For the YBa2(Cui 2Mz)306+ -type substitution, an overview of candidates for substituents is presented in table 29, together with the phases involved in the equilibrium at the solid-solution limits. Despite the comprehensive literature on these substitution phases, such key data are not frequently reported, simply because the extra labour has not been undertaken to perform the tedious experimental work on poly-phase materials to ensure equilibrium. This statement is particularly valid for the investigations on substituents with very low limits of solid solubility (Andresen et al. 1991), where also the detection threshold for the adopted analytical method should be taken into consideration. With the high sensitivity PXD instrumentation used by Andresen et al. (1991), the detection limit is some 0.5 and 1 wt%... [Pg.349]

Thus, the growth of an external oxide scale by the reaction between a pure metal or a metallic alloy and a gaseous or liquid oxidant phase at high temperature is also a combination of diffusion processes and interfacial reactions, and Fig. 2.1 also applies to such corrosion processes that are formally similar to solid-state reactions in poly-phase and multi-constituent systems. Such a similarity will be considered to extend the treatment of the Kirkendall effect for two-phase diffusion couples to the growth of an oxide scale on a pure metal or on an alloy. The roles of interfaces will be analysed more particularly in relation to some specific topics related to oxide scaling processes such as interface displacement, growth stresses and injection of point defects (vacancy or interstitial). [Pg.10]
