The variation of mechanical parameters correlates with variation of AH sudden drop of tensile and impact strength with a thin modifier layer, then increase of strength with increase of poly(urethane urea) film — a minor increase of strength but a tangible one for specific impact strength. [Pg.13]

We discussed more quantitatively the correlation of the adsorption with catalytic activity in the heterogeneous systems using poly(4-vinylpyridine-co-divinylbenzene) quaternized with alkylhalide [e. g. 88 (RC16PVP)] as a catalyst and p-nitrophenyl-valerate (PNPV) as a substrate147. ... [Pg.169]

Equation (40) relates the lifetime of potential-dependent PMC transients to stationary PMC signals and thus interfacial rate constants [compare (18)]. In order to verify such a correlation and see whether the interfacial recombination rates can be controlled in the accumulation region via the applied electrode potentials, experiments with silicon/polymer junctions were performed.38 The selected polymer, poly(epichlorhydrine-co-ethylenoxide-co-allyl-glycylether, or technically (Hydrine-T), to which lithium perchlorate or potassium iodide were added as salt, should not chemically interact with silicon, but can provide a solid electrolyte contact able to polarize the silicon/electrode interface. [Pg.497]

In this contribution, in order to illustrate tlie importance of shake-up bands for extended systems, we simulate and compare on correlated grounds the ionization spectra of polyethylene and poly acetylene, the most simplest systems one can consider to represent insulating or semi-conducting polymers. Conclusions for the infinite stereoregular chains are drawn by exU apolation of the trends observed with the first terms of the related n-alkane or acene series, CnH2n+2 and CnHn+2. respectively, with n=2, 4, 6 and 8. Our simulations are also compared to X-ray photoionization spectra (7) recorded on gas phase samples of ethylene, butadiene and hexatriene, which provide a clear experimental manisfestation of the construction of correlation bands (8-12). [Pg.78]

Tian et al. [56] have studied poly(G-caprolactone)-silica and Sengupta et al. [57] have investigated nylon 66-silica hybrid systems and have observed that the phase separation started when Si/H20 mole ratio is increased above 2 and the resultant hybrid films become opaque. Gao [11] has reported similar observations on sol-gel-derived ionomeric polyethylene-silica system. A wide range of literatures is not available on this topic of mbber-silica hybrid nanocomposites, though Bandyopadhyay et al. [34,35] have reported the hybrid formation with different TEOS/H2O mole ratios from ACM and ENR and also demonstrated detailed structure-property correlation in these systems. The hybrids have been prepared with 1 1, 1 2, 1 4, 1 6, 1 8, and 1 10 TEOS/H2O mole ratios. Figure 3.14 shows the morphology of the ACM-silica hybrid composites prepared from different TEOS/H2O mole ratios. [Pg.71]

A method of assessing the toxicity of implants has been proposed based on the effects on cell ultrastructure in organ cultures, on cell surface characteristics, and cell population doubling times. The effects have been correlated with hemorrhage, fibrosis, and necrosis, respectively (103). Poly-e-caprolactone was stated to give minimal tissue reaction and could not be scored in these tests. [Pg.111]

Another, simple form of elemental carbon would be chains formed from carbon atoms. As a prototype model a single>stranded chain is most suitable. If branching were to be considered, all intermediate forms up to and including the diamond and graphite like clusters would be included. For non branched chains, the two variants to choose from are a system of alternating singly and triply bonded carbon atoms (poly-ynes), and a system with all double bonds (cumulenes). Cumulene structures are assumed to be the preferred ones for odd membered chains, whereas the even ones may have some poly-yne character. Recent studies on linear Cg show that a cumulene-like structure is preferred, both at the SCF level and when correlation is accounted for(50). [Pg.43]

Surface force profiles between these polyelectrolyte brush layers have consisted of a long-range electrostatic repulsion and a short-range steric repulsion, as described earlier. Short-range steric repulsion has been analyzed quantitatively to provide the compressibility modulus per unit area (T) of the poly electrolyte brushes as a function of chain density (F) (Fig. 12a). The modulus F decreases linearly with a decrease in the chain density F, and suddenly increases beyond the critical density. The maximum value lies at F = 0.13 chain/nm. When we have decreased the chain density further, the modulus again linearly decreased relative to the chain density, which is natural for chains in the same state. The linear dependence of Y on F in both the low- and the high-density regions indicates that the jump in the compressibility modulus should be correlated with a kind of transition between the two different states. [Pg.13]

After the first report on the crystal structure correlation between 2,5-DSP and poly-2,5-DSP crystals, a different crystallographic result was reported on a poly-2,5-DSP crystal (Meyer et al., 1978). It was reconfirmed, however, that the first structural analysis was correct (Nakanishi et al., 1979a). 2,5-DSP, crystallized from benzene solution, is highly photoreactive (a-form), while the same compound, sublimed at a rather high temperature... [Pg.119]

The effectiveness with which divalent ions cause gelation of poly(acrylic add) has been found to follow the order Ba > Sr > Ca (Wall Drenan, 1951) and this has been attributed to the formation of salt-like crosslinks. Gelation has been assumed to arise in part from dehydration of the ion-pairs (Ikegami Imai, 1962), and certainly correlates with predpitation in fairly dilute systems. Indeed, the term precipitation has sometimes been applied to the setting of AB cements derived from poly(acrylic add) as they undergo the transition from soft manipulable paste to hard brittle solid. [Pg.49]
