Pollution effluents from bleaching

Akmehmet, I. and Arslan, I., Application of photocatalytic oxidation treatment to pretreated and raw effluents from the Kraft bleaching process and textile industrial, Environ. Pollut., 103(2-3), 261-268, 1998. [Pg.98]

Oanh, N.T.K. and Bengtsson, B.-E. (1995) Toxicity to Microtox, micro-algae and duckweed of effluents from the Bai Bang paper company (BAPACO), a Vietnamese bleached krafl pulp and paper mill, Environmental Pollution 90 (3), 391-399. [Pg.57]

The effluents from the bleaching process contain chlorinated organic compounds and cannot be disposed of by combustion with the spent cooking liquor. It pollutes the waste water stream with its oxygen demand and its toxic and genotoxic effects, it may even contain polychlorinated dibenzo-ftirans and dibenzo-p-dioxins in small concentrations. The stability of the chloro-organic compounds inaeases its biological and environmental persistence and this increases the tendency to bioconcentration in... [Pg.164]

The two main sources of air pollutants that may be emitted from basic wastewater treatment plant operations are pulping condensates and bleach plant effluent. The pulping condensates may include total reduced sulfur (TRS) compounds as well as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as methanol. The primary pollutants of concern for the bleach plant effluent are chloroform and methanol. Any volatile compounds that could be released as air emissions from basic wastewater treatment plant operations are relatively minor and are generally not subject to specific regulation.65-66... [Pg.896]
