Political mobilization

Race politics can only proceed from a racialized sense of the social order—an understanding that this or that race shall work toward this or that aim. In this sense the nation s first naturalization law, in 1790, represented race politics par excellence, as did its drastic revision in 1924. The former proceeded from an assumption that only white persons were truly fit for the rigors of republican self-government the latter, from a revised estimation that, whoops, only Nordics were fit after all. But race politics itself also holds the power to generate a racial order of its own the political mobilization of individuals and groups around a racially posed question can itself exert influence upon existing patterns of race-consciousness and racial salience.

Autobiographical article that tells the story of a prominent attorney who became a convert to the cause of gun control after he was shot by a disturbed client. At first he tries to mediate between gun control supporters and the NRA, but he concludes that gun supporters are intransigent and that only a massive political mobilization of gun control advocates will achieve the necessary objective of restricting guns to only a few categories of people. 

What disturbs the discourse of multiracialism is its inability to escape the association between its official discourse and political mobilization and the more disreputable articulations of sex across racial boundaries. How is it, for example, that both the mail-order bride industry and the multiracial movement can claim the same subversive, progressive potential in this post-civil rights era " WTiy is multiracialism maddened by the whole panoply of racist sexual stereotypes if they simply do not apply ... 

Yet, historically, refugees and exiled populations have been significant actors in world politics. They have engagedin processes of transnational political mobilization, which are under-researched and under-theorized as either a dependent or an independent variable. During the Cold War and post-Cold War eras, exiled political groups have formed in ways that have contested the incumbent regime from outside.

We all have needs, requirements, wants, and expectations. Needs are essential for life, to maintain certain standards, or essential for products and services, to fulfill the purpose for which they have been acquired. Requirements are what we request of others and may encompass our needs but often we don t fully realize what we need until after we have made our request. For example, now that we own a mobile phone we discover we really need hands-free operation when using the phone while driving a vehicle. Hence our requirements at the moment of sale may or may not express all our needs. Our requirements may include wants - what we would like to have but do not need nice to have but not essential. Expectations are implied needs or requirements. They have not been requested because we take them for granted - we regard them to be understood within our particular society as the accepted norm. They may be things to which we are accustomed, based on fashion, style, trends, or previous experience. Hence one expects sales staff to be polite and courteous, electronic products to be safe and reliable, policemen to be honest, etc.

Although the mechanism proposed for the ZSM-5/methanol system adequately explains the production of the primary C2-C5 products, it is not clear how these are converted into the final gasoline product or indeed why this product should be so rich in aromatics. Production of olefins from methanol over zeolite catalysts has previously been described (110, 112) however, the ZSM-5 system appears to be unique with respect to both product selectivity and catalyst stability. Mobil now has some 140 patents relating to the preparation and use of ZSM-5 zeolites and has stated that "given a favorable economic and political climate a commercial unit could be in operation by the early 1980 s (101). 

Both the Fischer-Tropsch reaction and the Mobil process enable one to convert synthesis gas into hydrocarbons. Since synthesis gas may be obtained from coal, we have in effect a means of converting coal u> gasoline. Geimany moved its Panzer Korps in World War II with synthetic fuels made from (he Fischer-Tropsch reaction, and improved technological developments have enhanced the attractiveness of the process. South African Synthetic Oil Limiied fSASOLJ currently operates several modern Fischer-Tropsch plants. Many organometallic chemists refer to both the Fischer-Tropsch and Mobil processes as political processes 1 2 because they are heavily subsidized by countries that find it important to be independent of foreign oil.
