Pledging

The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has been formed, consisting of nuclear plant operators over the entire world who have pledged to assist each other in the achievement of safe operations (25). There are four centers from which this international program is adrninistered one in the United States in Atlanta, Georgia, operated by INPO one in Paris operated by Electricitir de Prance one in Moscow operated by the Ministry of Nuclear Power and one in Tokyo operated by the Central Research Institute for the Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI). Through this mechanism, teams of operators from the U.S., Western Europe, and Asia visit CIS plants to share safety experience and know-how, and similarly, plant personnel from Russian and Eastern European nuclear units visit European, Asian, and U.S. plants. 

Chlorine Institute. Members of the Chlorine Institute are required to reaffirm their commitment to the Institute s safety pledge, including prevention of chlorine releases. The safety pledge also includes aimual safety audits, aimual emission and ha2ard evaluations of chlorine operations, periodic emergency-response test drills, and coordination with local officials for protection of the community (32) (see Alkali AND CHLORINE PRODUCTS). 

A mortgage is a bond in which specific real assets are pledged as security. A senior mortgage has a prior claim on assets. A junior mortgage is normally a second mortgage on the residual value of the assets. A blanket mortgage is a pledge on all real property owned by a company. 

A debenture is an unsecured bond. Strong companies are in a better position to issue debentures than weak companies since they have less need to pledge specific assets. Farben s government contracts contained mutual pledges of secrecy. Farben pledged not to tell what was being produced. The government pledged that if they ran across trade secrets in inspecting the Farben producers at work, they would reveal them to no one.

Prepared under Von Knieriem, the Farben production contracts contained mutual pledges of secrecy between Farben and the Reich. Farben would not reveal what was being produced, and the Wehrmacht agreed not to disclose any secrets they might run across in the Farben plants.
