Plate filters cake discharge

Filter development, in terms of complete automation, has placed further demands on media characteristics. Recessed plates are preferred to plate and firames, in order to facilitate mechanisation. Discharge of cakes is usually of high priority and is generally easier in recessed plate filters cake discharge fi om a plate and fi ame unit does not necessarily foUow the opening of the filter.

The twisting rubber hoses or o ringed elbows which connect the rotating pan necks with pipe and the wear plate to the face of the stationary valve The condition of the high impact nozzles mounted on the cloth wash manifold and, for wet cake discharge, the sluicing manifold The support rollers which take the vertical load of the entire machine and the horizontal thrust rolls that maintain the rotating frame concentric The toothed rim and sprocket which drives the pan filter... 

The composition of the first treatment can be checked by filtering a sample in the laboratory and then adding a small amount of dilute ferric chloride or aluminum sulfate to the filtrate. Any precipitate indicates that the reaction has not been taken to completion (11-13). The contents of the first treatment tank are then filtered, typically in an open plate and frame filter. The filter cake is discharged periodically for disposal. Filter aid can be added, if required.
