Plastic scrims

Plastic scrims are related to the same category of inhibited plastics. In a non-woven form, the inhibited film is first extruded. The polymer webbing (usually melt-blown inhibited polymer fibers) is then laminated to the film. Zerust ferrous plastic scrim is used in the manufacture of airtight packages inside which a protective atmosphere is created by VCI vapors. The fibrous scrim layer also protects packed goods from impact damage. [Pg.343]

Nonwovens The textile and paper industries are based on the two oldest (wet and dry) processes. Manufacturers of nonwovens for plastics draw on both. With the wet, there are basically two types namely the Fourdrinier and cylinder machine types that have been modified. In addition, two basic types exist for the process formation of the web and application of the bonding agent or system where mechanical carding of fibers is used. The particular equipment and method of operation to be used, with their many modifications, is influenced by desired requirements such as mechanical properties, softness, surface condition, tenacity, etc. There are certain t) es of so-called nonwoven fabric that are directly formed from short or chopped fiber as well as continuous filaments. They are produced by loosely compressing together fibers, yarns, rovings, etc. with or without a scrim cloth carrier assembled by mechanical, chemical, thermal, or solvent methods. Products of this type include melted and spun-bonded fabrics. [Pg.103]

In reinforced plastics the fabrics most commonly used are glass, cotton, nylon, polyethylene, and aramid. Glass fabrics are used in electrical-grade laminates, mechanical laminates, and marine-grade laminates. Scrim glass fabrics are used as facing layers for smooth, cosmetic applications. [Pg.182]

White pigmented, lightly filled PVC sheet was made by dryblending 100 phr of PVC resin (K= 70) with 50-60 phr of plasticizer (as indicated. Table 3), 5 phr of surface treated TiOa, 10 phr CaC03, 0.3 phr of HALS/UV absorber UV package, 2.5 phr Ca Zn heat stabilizer and 0.25 phr stearic acid. Dryblends were extruded onto a calender and processed into 0.3 or 0.5 mm sheets. Sheets of different gauge were laminated around a polyester scrim, L9P based sheet on L9P based sheet, DIDP on DIDP and L9P/DIDP on L9P/DIDP. [Pg.157]
