Placing out of reach

The cable is constructed of stranded aluminium conductors formed around a core of steel-stranded conductors (see Fig. 3.41). The aluminium conductors carry the current and the steel core provides the tensile strength required to suspend the cable between pylons. The cable is not insulated since it is placed out of reach and insulation would only add to the weight of the cable. [Pg.211]

The essence of the concept is the prevention of direct and indirect shocks by contact between a hve part or a conductive part made live by a fault and earth. To this end, insulating walls and floors are used with the minimum amount of touchable conductive and extraneous conductive parts. Any that are used and that could become live under fault conditions have to be so spaced as to prevent anyone touching two of them at the same time. The area has to be earth-free, so no protective conductors are employed and conductive and extraneous conductive parts are not earthed. Extraneous conductive parts, such as metal pipes which are in the location and outside it, need protection by insulation, barriers or placing out of reach so that in the event of a fault they cannot transmit a potential, including an earth potential, in either direction. [Pg.39]

Measures to prevent shock by direct contact are in section 412 and subsections 471-04 to 471-07 and include the insulation of live parts, the use of barriers, enclosures and obstacles, and placing out of reach. The intention is to prevent any part of the body coming into contact with live parts at dangerous potentials. Subsection 412-06 refers to back-up protection by means of a sensitive RCD. This does not prevent but mitigates the effect of an... [Pg.135]

Process workers often complain that valves are inaccessible. Emergency valves should always be readily accessible but other valves, if they are operated, say, once a year or less often, can be out of reach. It is reasonable to expect workers to get a ladder or scramble into a pipe trench at this frequency. Designers should remember that if a valve is just within reach of an average person then half of the population cannot reach it. Equipment should be placed such that at least 95% of the population can reach it. Guidance on specific measurements to achieve this objective is available in a number of standard human factors textbooks (see Bibliography). [Pg.119]

The earliest applications of quantum chemistry were targeted toward molecules in the gas phase. This was in part due to an interest in such an environment which allows researchers to focus on the intrinsic properties of the molecule of interest. But also, since much of practical chemistry takes place in solution of some sort, this environment presents an important avenue of inquiry as well. However, such solvated systems were typically out of reach of quantum calculations. For one thing, the inclusion of a number of solvent molecules into the calculations would commonly take the system beyond the capabilities of computers at the time. Secondly, solvent... [Pg.407]

The next morning he removes one of his captive mice from the trap, takes it by the back of the neck and quickly passes it up into the vessel of common air inverted over water. He sets the mouse on a raised platform within the vessel, out of reach of the water. The little beast must not drown. Then under the second vessel, filled with oxygen, he places an equally vivacious mouse with the same care. [Pg.40]

It is my rapier, I said. I wore it to the palace last night, and thefante who took charge of it Avill confirm that he returned it to me. When we came home, about seven o clock, I put it back in its place on top of my wardrobe, out of reach of children. I did not touch it after that. It was stolen. ... [Pg.94]

This drug and any other drug should be stored in a closed place out of the reach of children and/ or infants in order to prevent poisoning. [Pg.264]

Bromadiolone is a rodent control agent for rats and mice in and around buildings, inside transport vehicles, and inside sewers. It is formulated as meal bait, paraffinized pellets, rat and mouse bait ready-to-use place packs, and paraffin blocks (all formulations contain 0.005% active ingredient). Baits and bait packs are placed at 15 ft intervals for rats and 8 ft intervals for mice. The maximum rates of application are 16 ounces of bait for 15 ft intervals for controlling commensal rats and 2 ounces of bait for 8 ft intervals for house mice. According to labels, all baits are to be placed out of the reach of children, pets, domestic animals, and nontarget wildlife or tamper-resistant bait stations may be used. [Pg.338]

S 1/2 Keep locked up and out of reach of children S 7/9 Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place S 16 Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking S 45 In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show the label where possible). [Pg.91]

Protection against electric shock, both basic protection and fault protection , is provided by insulating and placing live parts out of reach in suitable enclosures, earthing and bonding metalwork and providing fuses or circuit-breakers so that the supply is automatically disconnected under fault conditions. [Pg.158]

Other methods of basic protection include the provision of barriers or enclosures which can only be opened by the use of a tool, or when the supply is first disconnected. Protection can also be provided by fixed obstacles such as a guardrail around an open switchboard or by placing live parts out of reach as with overhead lines. [Pg.182]
