Pigment Manufacturers Economics

Benzimidazolone pigments first appeared on the German market in 1964. The relative order in which the seventeen generic structures, still available as pigments from Clariant, were launched in Europe, is listed in Table 10.3. As mentioned above, there are numerous manufacturers of benzimidazolone pigments today. [Pg.158]

Since the introduction of this pigment class, they have successfully competed in the replacement of heavy metal-containing inorganic pigments in paints and plastics, and now form a most important group of organic yellows, oranges and reds. [Pg.159]

The economic impact of Iler s silica coating process will continue to play a major role in the coatings industry, from the perspective of the pigment manufacturers as well as the coatings producer. A conservative estimate of 300 mUlion is placed on the value of dense silica coated titanium dioxide pigments that were sold in 1990 in the world pigment marketplace. The total value of manufactured coatings products is estimated to be in excess of 4 billion. [Pg.664]

Around 1800, the attack of chromite [53293-42-8] ore by lime and alkaU carbonate oxidation was developed as an economic process for the production of chromate compounds, which were primarily used for the manufacture of pigments (qv). Other commercially developed uses were the development of mordant dyeing using chromates in 1820, chrome tanning in 1828 (2), and chromium plating in 1926 (3) (see Dyes and dye intermediates Electroplating Leather). In 1824, the first chromyl compounds were synthesized followed by the discovery of chromous compounds 20 years later. Organochromium compounds were produced in 1919, and chromium carbonyl was made in 1927 (1,2). [Pg.132]

Comparatively low-cost starting materials and easy synthesis make it possible to manufacture these pigments economically. [Pg.272]

The largest titanium reserves in the world are in the form of anatase and titano-magnetite, but these cannot be worked economically at the present time. About 95 % of the world s production of ilmenite and rutile is used to produce TiOz pigments, the remainder for the manufacture of titanium metal and in welding electrodes. [Pg.45]
