Physiological Research Section

Looking back, the variety of substituents, including crosslinks, encountered in physiological research, is really remarkable and raises the important question of their implications in the area of foods. In principle, any of the above types of substituents could be present on proteins, peptides, and amino acids found in foods (see Section 3.1 below). Under appropriate conditions, the crosslinks would be expected to be able to affect texture, in particular, but also other functional properties. [Pg.112]

In September the first chemists arrived. The laboratories were not finished, there was no heat, and there was insufficient equipment. Yet, there were so many problems awaiting solution that chemists set up their apparatus on improvised benches while carpenters installed hoods and desks, plumbers laid gas and water lines, and electricians wired sockets. Shortly after the research center at American University opened, Manning organized it into eight sections Chemical Research, Physiological Research, Pyrotechnic Research, Chemical Manufacture, Mechanical Research, Submarine Gases, Dirigible and Balloon Gas, and Gas Mask Examination. ... [Pg.6]

Charles F. Reinhardt, who has an M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine and an M.Sc. in occupational medicine from Ohio State University School of Medicine, retired after more than 30 years with the DuPont Company. Dr. Reinhardt joined DuPont s Haskell Eaboratory in 1966, first as a physiologist, then as chief of the physiology section, and then as research manager for environmental sciences. In 1971, he became assistant director of the laboratory and in 1976 was named its director, a position he held until his retirement in 1996. Dr. Reinhardt has served on numerous... [Pg.70]

Dr. French was honored by Iowa State University in his appointment as Charles F. Curtis Distinguished Professor in 1968. His research was supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, the U. S. Department of Agriculture, the Corn Industries Research Foundation, and the Corn Refiners Association. He served as a consultant to government agencies and industrial companies. He was a member of the study section for Physiological Chemistry of the National Institutes of Health, and was for many years a consultant with the National Starch and Chemical Company of New Jersey. [Pg.10]
