Physical cementing

Physically, cement kiln dust (CKD) and lime kiln dust (LKD) are fine, powdery materials of relatively uniform size. Approximately 75% of the kiln dust particles are finer than 0.030 mm. The fineness of kiln dust, as Portland cement, can be determined using the Blaine air permeabihty apparatus in accordance with ASTM method C204 [88-98]. [Pg.98]

Other fibrous and porous materials used for sound-absorbing treatments include wood, cellulose, and metal fibers foamed gypsum or Pordand cement combined with other materials and sintered metals. Wood fibers can be combined with binders and dame-retardent chemicals. Metal fibers and sintered metals can be manufactured with finely controlled physical properties. They usually are made for appHcations involving severe chemical or physical environments, although some sintered metal materials have found their way into architectural appHcations. Prior to concerns regarding its carcinogenic properties, asbestos fiber had been used extensively in spray-on acoustical treatments. [Pg.312]

This article discusses traditional hull ding and construction products, ie, not made from synthetic polymers (see Building materials, plastic), including wood, asphalt, gypsum, glass products, Pordand cement, and bricks. The article presents information about each basic material, the products made from it, the basic processes by which the products or materials are produced, estimates of the quantity or doUar value of the quantities produced or used in the United States, and some pertinent chemical or physical properties related to the material. More detailed chemical and physical property data can be found in articles devoted to the individual materials (see Asphalt Cement Glass Wood). [Pg.317]

The physical properties of the reinforced polyester product made from chopped glass are Hsted in Table 1. The chemical resistance varies according to the composition but is generally good. Its principal uses in building products are for sanitary ware, eg, tub-shower units, and for panels, especially translucent or cement-filled types for roofing and walls of commercial or industrial buildings. [Pg.328]

In addition to chemical analysis a number of physical and mechanical properties are employed to determine cemented carbide quaUty. Standard test methods employed by the iadustry for abrasive wear resistance, apparent grain size, apparent porosity, coercive force, compressive strength, density, fracture toughness, hardness, linear thermal expansion, magnetic permeabiUty, microstmcture, Poisson s ratio, transverse mpture strength, and Young s modulus are set forth by ASTM/ANSI and the ISO. [Pg.444]

The physical properties of ZrC are Hsted in Table 2. Zirconium carbide is much less important than TiC for cemented carbides. [Pg.452]

Material that holds parts together by surface attachment. Examples include glue, mucilage, paste and cement. Various forms of adhesives include liquid or tape adhesives (physical type) and silicate or resin adhesives (chemical type). [Pg.127]

Tetracalcium aluminoferrite (4CaO Al O, FeOj) has little effect on the physical properties of the cement. For high-sulfate-resistant (HSR) cements, API specifications require that the sum of the tetracalcium aluminoferrite content plus twice the tricalcium aluminate may not exceed a maximum of 24%. [Pg.1179]
