Tetracalcium aluminoferrite 1.25

Tetracalcium aluminoferrite acts as a processing aid by reducing the clinkering temperature. It hydrates rapidly but does Htde for any performance property of the cured concrete. It does, however, cause most of the color effects in the cured concrete. [Pg.323]

Tetracalcium aluminoferrite (4CaO Al O, FeOj) has little effect on the physical properties of the cement. For high-sulfate-resistant (HSR) cements, API specifications require that the sum of the tetracalcium aluminoferrite content plus twice the tricalcium aluminate may not exceed a maximum of 24%. [Pg.1179]

The percentage of dicalcium silicate determines the final strength of the cement, whereas the amount of tricalcium silicate is related to the early strength (7 to 8 days) required of the cement. Tricalcium aluminate relates to the set in the cement, and tetracalcium aluminoferrite reduces the heat necessary in manufacture. [Pg.133]

In 1936 Insley (about whom much more is said later) clearly showed that (1) alite is tricalcium silicate (CjS), (2) two different habits of dicalcium silicate (C S) comprise belite and felite, and (3) celite is tetracalcium aluminoferrite (C AF). Insley s descriptions and illus trations of clinker phases remain the basis for much of succeeding publications by others. [Pg.4]

The rate of hydration of C4AF is retarded in the presence of superplasticizers. In an investigation involving conduction calorimetry, Gagne found that, in the presence of SNF and SNF + SO/", the hydration of tetracalcium aluminoferrite was retarded during the 60 minutes of hydration. [Pg.265]
