Pharmacology miscellaneous

MISCELLANEOUS STRUCTURES As befits their chemical heterogenecity, the miscellaneous group of drugs in this section belong to a wide range of pharmacological classes as well. [Pg.304]

Due to the large number of references which appeared to be worth mentioning, it became necessary to divide this review into two parts. The present part deals mainly with pyridazines as chemotherapeutics, antithrombotics, antise-cretory and anti-ulcer agents, analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents as well as with various central nervous system stimulants and depressants. Part 2 of this review, which is planned for a future volume of this Series, will be devoted mainly to compounds which act on the cardiovascular system and to a discussion of miscellaneous additional pharmacological activities of pyridazine derivatives. [Pg.3]

Certain types of pyrido[l,2-a]pyrimidines have aroused much interest owing to their valuable pharmacological properties. They are also used as synthetic intermediates or as additives to photographic materials and dyes. In the following sections the syntheses, reactions, physicochemical properties, and briefly the utilization of the pyrido[l,2-ci]pyrimidines are discussed. Within the individual sections the pyrido[l,2-ti]pyrimidinium salts, followed by the 2-oxo-2//-pyrido[l,2-a]pyrimidines, 4-oxo-4H-p3 rido[l,2-a]pyri-midines, 3,4-dihydro-2/7-pyrido[l,2- ]pyrimidines, 2-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H-and 4-oxo-2,3-dihydro-47/-pyrido[l,2-a]pyrimidines, and finally miscellaneous pyrido[l,2- (]pyrimidines are dealt with. [Pg.242]

Numerous applications of pharmacokinetic-dynamic models incorporating a biophase (or effect) compartment for a variety of drugs that belong to miscellaneous pharmacological classes, e.g., anesthetic agents [419], opioid analgesics [420-422], barbiturates [423,424], benzodiazepines [425], antiarrhyth-mics [426], have been published. The reader can refer to a handbook [427] or recent reviews [405] for a complete list of the applications of the biophase distribution model. [Pg.301]

Miscellaneous compounds of pharmacological interest have been shown to inhibit aromatase in vitro, including the antimalarial drug mefloquine, [138], the oral hypoglycaemic agent, tolbutamide [139], and nicotine, its metabolite cotinine, and anabasine, all of which are found in tobacco [140]. These effects probably have little clinical relevance, although the latter three compounds may account for the reduced urinary [141] and plasma [142] oestrogen concentrations found in smokers [140],... [Pg.269]
