Pharmaceuticals antiulcer

The market for antiulcer agents (Fig. 1) is large and is comprised of both prescription and over the counter (OTC) products. The estimated prescription market is over 3 biUion aimuaHy in the United States, whereas the more difficult to estimate OTC market is in the range of 500 million aimuaHy. Several pharmaceutical companies are attempting to obtain approval for OTC use of prescription-only agents, and patent protection for several of the histamine antagonists mns out in the mid-1990s. 

CH2=CHCH(NH2)CH2CH2C00H (18), obtained through condensation of diethyl malonate with l,4-dichloro-2-butene [764-41-0] (43), or the antiulcer Rebamipide [90098-04-7] (19), whose synthesis involves the use of 2-(acetylamino)malonate (44), are examples of new pharmaceuticals recently launched. 

Sucralfate [54182-58-0] an aluminum salt of sucrose octasulfate, is used as an antacid and antiulcer medication (59). Bis- and tris-platinum complexes of sucrose show promise as antitumor agents (60). Sucrose monoesters are used in some pharmaceutical preparations (21). A sucrose polyester is under evaluation as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (mri) (61). Oral adrninistration of this substance opacifies the gastrointestinal tract and eliminates the need for purging prior to mri. 

Since the monoisotopic signal is the protonated ion, the elemental composition for the API in the counterfeit tablets was therefore determined as C8lTj502N7S3. A computerized search of The Merck Index using the elemental formula suggested the unknown compound to be Famotidine, an active pharmaceutical ingredient widely used in over-the-counter antiulcerative medicine. 

The benzimidazole scaffold is a useful structural motif for the development of molecules of pharmaceutical or biological interest. Appropriately substituted benzimidazole derivatives have foimd diverse therapeutic apphcations such as in antiulcers, antihypertensives, antivirals, antifungals, anticancers, and antihistaminics [3]. The optimization of benzimidazole-based structures has resulted in various drugs that are currently on the market, such as omeprazole 1 (proton pump inhibitor), pimobendan 2 (ionodilator), and mebendazole 3 (anthelmintic) (Fig. 1). The spectrum of pharmacological activity exhibited by benzimidazoles has been reviewed by several authors [3-6].

EPS from LAB have become industrially attractive compounds due to then-great potential economic applications in the food industry as natural and safe food additives for improving smoothness, rheological properties, texture, mouthfeel, stability, and water retention of the final (mainly dairy) food products (Table 11.2). Carrageenan has diverse industrial applications including use in toothpaste, ice cream, chocolate milk, jellies, puddings, pet foods, pharmaceutical and industrial suspensions, antiulcer treatments, shampoos, creams, lotions, and oil/water and water/oil emulsions.
