Petroleum industry foam drilling fluid

Foam Control. Whereas some siUcones are known to be foam promoters, Dow Corning FS-1265 Fluid is a Hquid fluorosiUcone with effective antifoam properties. Petroleum industry appHcation of fluids and dispersions in gas—oil separators on offshore drilling platforms has been successful. Their use peaked in the early 1980s, coinciding with constrained cmde oil capacity and production. Diesel fuels are an excellent solvent for dimethyl silicones and render them ineffective as an antifoam. A new antifoam which does not require the use of added siUca is formulated from a fluorosiUcone copolymer. It has shown promise to antifoam (8) diesel fuel (see Defoamers). 

The features of foam application in petroleum industry were summarised by Schramm [224], Thereafter only very few publications appeared on this subject, so that we mainly describe Schramm s concepts. First of all, these are foams which contribute to an enhanced efficiency of oil recovery foam drilling fluids, foam fracturing fluids, gas mobility control foams, and foam acidising fluids. 

Suspensions are created at an early stage of processes used to separate valuable minerals or oil by froth flotation (Chapter 10). Suspensions are also quite important and widespread in the petroleum industry (Chapter 11) and, like emulsions and foams, suspensions may be encountered throughout each of the stages of petroleum recovery and processing (in reservoirs, drilling fluids, production fluids, process-...
