Personal transformation report

Achieving effectiveness through becoming an informed coordinator  [Pg.3]

Before undertaking this project I had never really attempted to define what a meinager was supposed to do or achieve. I have worked in various settings, but had never been trained as a manager . Now I feel I am taking on the mantle of management . [Pg.3]

I am a Service Manager within the Social Services Department of a London borough. The Service Manager role is a combination of several middle management functions in an attempt to flatten the hierarchy and we are stretched in many directions. It is not uncommon to be representing the local authority at the highest level one moment, then be locked into complex local operational concerns the next. [Pg.3]

I was contacted at home by the Director of Social Services and asked to take on the added responsibility of organizing and leading on Disability until a new Principal Occupational Therapist (OT) was appointed. The Director stated that he was very comfortable with me doing this . Well, he might have been 1 was terrified, though I conceded. [Pg.3]

The opportunity of using this task as my project for the Effective Management course did give me some confidence, however. I have a background of specializing within Children and Families Services, specifically child protection, though part of my responsibilities include an overview of physical [Pg.3]

Each of the four Parts of this book begins with a Personal transformation report . These are case reports by individual managers who have put themselves through the process of undertaking a small but challenging project in their work which has resulted in practical learning and personal development. [Pg.337]

Triclosan is a broad spectrum antibacterial agent with antifungal and antiviral properties, widely employed in personal care products such as soaps, shampoos, toothpastes, and cosmetics [40]. Fungal-mediated degradation studies have been mainly performed by means of enzymatic processes, although a couple of whole cell transformation reports are available. [Pg.182]

However, the question as to whether the first methylation step, the conversion from noradrenaline to adrenaline, is an active process over-all in the body should be susceptible of fairly easy study by repeating the experiments of Richter and Macintosh (12) and of Beyer and Shapiro (4) but administering noradrenaline instead of adrenaline. The urine-excreted compounds could be bioassayed after suitable hydrolysis and the relative amounts of noradrenaline and adrenaline in the hydrolyzate determined by using the differential activities of the two compounds on rabbit intestine and rat uterus as first reported by West (16). The differences between normal persons and those in successive stages of essential hypertension with regard to their abilities to conjugate noradrenaline and adrenaline and with regard to their abilities to transform the former into the latter surely should be a subject of precise chemical study in the near future. [Pg.58]

Stokes was the first person to prepare a polymeric form of these species. He reported that any of the small-molecule cyclic chlorophosphazene compounds, when heated, were transformed into a rubbery material that was later called inorganic rubber. 11 This material swelled in organic solvents such as benzene but it did not dissolve. Stokes also described how inorganic rubber decomposed to reform the cyclic compounds when heated to high temperatures under reduced pressure. His accomplishments at that time are all the more remarkable because these compounds are sensitive to a moist atmosphere in which they are hydrolyzed to ammonium phosphate and hydrochloric acid. [Pg.66]

The distinction between the profile of an inventor and innovator is quite clear from the report involving the invention and innovation of penicillin and streptomycin. According to Schumpeter (1988), an inventor produces ideas, while an innovator makes things happen, and materializes ideas. Personal commitment and willpower are characteristics of an innovator. This is the difference between Fleming and Florey in relation to the discovery and innovation of penicillin, respectively. The researcher/inven-tor has to deal with resistance to new ideas without the ability to make these new ideas accepted. In contrast, an innovator has the ability necessary to promote ideas and transform them into reality. [Pg.386]

Advances in technology can facilitate the generation and transfer of patient documentation. As more pharmacies use the Internet as a means of communication, information can be transferred quickly and accurately over greater distances. Handheld computers and specialty software allow health care practitioners to document information in an electronic format that can be transformed immediately for rapid transfer to others. Reports in the literature have described methods to assess pharmacist interventions related to medication errors, the use of computer-based systems, and recently, the use of personal digital assistants (PDAs) in specific patient care areas. Many of these documentation systems tend to be individualized apphcations in which the transfer of data to other providers is not possible or quite limited. Often these systems focus on the generation of reports for workload analysis or accreditation purposes. [Pg.46]

Lastly, modern analytical instruments are almost always interfaced with personal computers to provide sophisticated system control and the storage, treatment (for example the performance of Fourier transforms or calculations of derivative spectra) and reporting of data. Such systems can also evaluate the results statistically, and compare the analytical results with data libraries in order to match spectral and other information. All these facilities are now available from low-cost computers operating at high speeds. Also important is the use of intelligent instruments, which incorporate automatic set-up and fault diagnosis and can perform optimization processes (see Chapter 7). [Pg.108]
