Bums, R. G. (1989b) Mossbauer spectra of 57Fe in rare earth perovskites Applications to the electronic states of iron in the Mantle. In Perovskite A Structure of Great Interest to Geophysics and Materials Science. (A. Navrotsky D. J. Weidner, eds AGU), Geophys. Mono., 45, 81-90. [Pg.484]

Recently, perovskite-type oxides have been assessed as promising components of NSR systems as they demonstrated higher NO-to-N02 conversions than a commercial platinum-based diesel oxidation catalyst [81]. In the next section, few indicative, not exhaustive but interesting cases of perovskite applications in diesel engine de-NO technology will be presented and discussed. [Pg.594]

Another application is in tire oxidation of vapour mixtures in a chemical vapour transport reaction, the attempt being to coat materials with a tlrin layer of solid electrolyte. For example, a gas phase mixture consisting of the iodides of zirconium and yttrium is oxidized to form a thin layer of ytnia-stabilized zirconia on the surface of an electrode such as one of the lanthanum-snontium doped transition metal perovskites Lai j.Srj.M03 7, which can transmit oxygen as ions and electrons from an isolated volume of oxygen gas. [Pg.242]

Recent applications of e-beam and HF-plasma SNMS have been published in the following areas aerosol particles [3.77], X-ray mirrors [3.78, 3.79], ceramics and hard coatings [3.80-3.84], glasses [3.85], interface reactions [3.86], ion implantations [3.87], molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) layers [3.88], multilayer systems [3.89], ohmic contacts [3.90], organic additives [3.91], perovskite-type and superconducting layers [3.92], steel [3.93, 3.94], surface deposition [3.95], sub-surface diffusion [3.96], sensors [3.97-3.99], soil [3.100], and thermal barrier coatings [3.101]. [Pg.131]

However, in the case of the perovskite even the application of sintering temperatures as high as 1200 °C did not result in a higher overall ionic conductivity. Since the total ionic conductivity is two orders of magnitude lower than the bulk conductivity in polycrystalline Li0 34La05] Ti 0294, an improvement by way of the preparation route is necessary rather than changes in the lattice by the addition of dopants,... [Pg.538]

Several researchers have focused their attention on the application of oxide materials to lower the oxidation temperature of soot particulates. It was reported that active soot oxidation catalysts are PbO, C03O4, V2O5, M0O3, CuO, and perovskite type oxides[3]. [Pg.261]

Double Substitution In such processes, two substitutions take place simultaneously. For example, in perovskite oxides, La may be replaced by Sr at the same time as Co is replaced by Fe to give solid solutions Lai Sr Coi yFey03 5. These materials exhibit mixed ionic and electronic conduction at high temperatures and have been used in a number of applications, including solid oxide fuel cells and oxygen separation. [Pg.425]

The oxide Ba2In205 is another well-studied phase that adopts the brownmillerite structure. This material disorders above 930°C to a perovskite-type structure containing oxygen vacancies. Both the Sr-Fe and Ba-In oxides are of interest for electrochemical applications in fuel cells and similar devices (Section 6.10). [Pg.190]

In this chapter the technological development in cathode materials, particularly the advances being made in the material s composition, fabrication, microstructure optimization, electrocatalytic activity, and stability of perovskite-based cathodes will be reviewed. The emphasis will be on the defect structure, conductivity, thermal expansion coefficient, and electrocatalytic activity of the extensively studied man-ganite-, cobaltite-, and ferrite-based perovskites. Alterative mixed ionic and electronic conducting perovskite-related oxides are discussed in relation to their potential application as cathodes for ITSOFCs. The interfacial reaction and compatibility of the perovskite-based cathode materials with electrolyte and metallic interconnect is also examined. Finally the degradation and performance stability of cathodes under SOFC operating conditions are described. [Pg.132]

LaMn03 is an intrinsic p-type conductor. Electronic conductivity is enhanced by substitution of the La3+ site with divalent ions such as strontium or calcium. Of the alkaline-earth dopants, Sr substitution is preferred for SOLC applications because the resultant perovskite forms stable compounds with high conductivity in the oxidizing atmosphere found at the cathode [41], Extensive data show that La, xSi. MnO where x = 0.1 - 0.2, provides high conductivity while maintaining mechanical and chemical stability with YSZ [41, 42],... [Pg.137]

An alternative to the Co-rich perovskites is the Sr-doped LaFe03 which has a lower thermal expansion coefficient and a superior chemical compatibility with doped Ce02 electrolyte. LaFe03 is expected to be more stable than Ni- and Co-based perovskites because the Fe3+ ion has the stable electronic configuration 3d5. It is, therefore, expected that compositions in the system (La,Sr)(Co,Fe)03 will have desirable properties for intermediate temperature SOFC cathode applications. [Pg.147]

The above techniques have a wide array of applications, including those that are both analytical and physicochemical (such as bonding) in nature. Typical examples of research include the surface chemistry of ferrite minerals (38) and the valence states of copper in a wide array of copper (39) minerals. Other areas of bonding that have been studied include the oxidation state of vanadium (40) in vanadium-bearing aegirities (also using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and the. surface features of titanium perovskites (41). ... [Pg.399]
