In conclusion, many authors believed that VC was a rather effective additive for chemical modification of the anode SEE It not only reduced the irreversible capacity during the initial charging process of lithium ion cells, but it also improved the stability of the SEI at elevated temperatures. Because of VC participation, the new SEI chemistry contained polymeric species that stemmed from the reductive polymerization of VC, which was characterized by a high content of alkyl carbonate functionalities. Comparative studies of this additive in commercial lithium ion cells proved that VC presence improved cycle life performance. 

Since there were variations in the experimental conditions (such as the nature of the aldehyde or the number of performed reaction cycles) it remains possible that the event or the extent of symmetry breaking depend on these. Even if the first reaction cycle gives rise to only a small ee, further ones will certainly amplify this small bias and push it with its proper enantiomeric direction to the edges. Further influence could come from achiral additives. Kawasaki et al. assume in the case of the addition of achiral silica gel that this additive may provide an improved reaction platform by coordination of the aldehyde and involvement of a zinc atom from the reaction of diisopropylzinc with the acidic hydroxyl group of silica gel [40]. Further systematic experimental studies, which can also shed more light on the basic reaction mechanism, are required to better understand the differences in the results.

Early studies on the effects of carbon addition to negative pastes [21,25] showed that carbon functions primarily as a conductor, and thereby enhances formation efficiency and reduces the level of residual sulfate. It may also improve recharge, particularly under deep-discharge conditions. It was further concluded that, when combined with barium sulfate and an organic component, a typical carbon addition of 0.2wt.% has little influence on the discharge performance and cycle-life of batteries.

Measurement (a) facilitates organizational learning and process improvements, (b) fulfills the need for consensus on new product outcomes and determinants, and (c) leads to observable benefits, such as improved cycle times, improved new product success rates, and an enhanced ability to assess changes to the new product development process.
