Iodotrifluoroethylene is relatively inaccessible. Fortunately, therefore, two groups of workers (13, 14) independently found that the more readily obtainable bromotrifluoroethylene will form a Grignard reagent in reasonable deld in tetrahydrofuran at low temperatures. Reactions between the perfluorovinyl Grignard reagent and a number of organic compounds have been studied and some novel results obtained (30, 31), Simple aldehydes and ketones afford a-fluoro-a, /3-unsaturated acid fluorides.
