PTFE mouldings and extrudates may be machined without difficulty. Film may be obtained by peeling from a pressure sintered ring and this may be welded to similar film by heat sealing under light pressure at about 350°C. [Pg.370]

For the experiment, the dorsal skin of young rats (Wistar or a comparable strain) is shaved and washed with an antibiotic solution (containing, e.g., streptomycin, penicillin, chloramphenicol, and amphotericin in concentrations inhibiting bacterial growth). After skin excision, excess fat is peeled off and the skin is placed over the end of a polytetrafluoroethylene tube with the epidermal side in touch with the hollow cylinder. The skin is fixed with an O-ring and the tube interior is sealed. The side of the dermis is then submersed in a magnesium sulphate solution (154 mM). The samples are applied at 30°C to the epidermal side of the skin in such a way that the skin interface is fully covered. After the incubation time, the substances are removed with prewarmed water the skin surface tension is decreased with ethanol which is subsequently replaced with magnesium sulphate solution (154 mM). [Pg.22]

The main renewable resource for L-carvone is spearmint oil (Mentha spicata), which contains up to 75% of this flavour chemical. There also exists a synthetic process for the manufacturing of L-carvone, which is based on (-t)-limonene, which is available as a by-product of the citrus juice industry as a major component of orange peel oil (Scheme 13.4). The synthesis was developed in the nineteenth century and starts with the reaction of (-t)-limonene and nitrosyl chloride, which ensures the asymmetry of the ring. Treatment with base of the nitrosyl chloride adduct results in elimination of hydrogen chloride and rearrangement of the nitrosyl function to an oxime. Acid treatment of the oxime finally results in l-carvone. [Pg.291]

The equivalent British Standard, BS 903 Part A1242, is identical to ISO 36, and ISO 6133 is reproduced as BS ISO 6133. ASTM D41343 contains a method similar to ISO 36 but also has methods for 90° peel of strip and ring test pieces. While most of the limonoids of Citrus have been isolated from seeds, several occur in detectable amounts in other parts of the fruit. Minor amounts of deacetylnomilin, nomilin, obacunone, de-acetylnomilinic acid and nomilinic acid were identified in extracts of navel orange peel (37). 17-Dehydrolimonoate A-ring lactone was isolated from peel and juice of navel oranges (38) and nomilin has been reported to occur in grapefruit juice and juice vesicles (39).
