Adhesives. Contact adhesives are blends of mbber, phenoHc resin, and additives suppHed in solvent or aqueous dispersion form they are typically appHed to both surfaces to be joined (80). Evaporation of the solvent leaves an adhesive film that forms a strong, peel-resistant bond. Contact adhesives are used widely in the furniture and constmction industries and also in the automotive and footwear industries. The phenoHc resins promote adhesion and act as tackifiers, usually at a concentration of 20—40%. In solvent-based contact adhesives, neoprene is preferred, whereas nitrile is used in specialty appHcations. The type and grade of phenoHc resin selected control tack time, bond strength, and durabiHty. [Pg.303]

If an assembly is destructively inspected, the verification film is used to identify potential problem areas for particular attention. These areas and others randomly selected are cross-sectioned to determine bondline thickness (Fig. 22), bond details are peeled apart to inspect for voids and honeycomb core bonds are... [Pg.1169]

Four intraspecific hybrids were finally selected and they were grown to obtain the kinetics of endopectinases production and extracellular protein content. The course of endopectinase production by Aspergillus sp. CH-Y-1043 and hybrids during their growth on 1 % lemon peel is shown in Figure 1. [Pg.896]

Fig. 6. Schematic diagram of the steps involved in the cookie cutter method of cell selection. (A) Cells are grown on plastic Petri dishes covered with a darkened nylon film. (B) Based on fluorescence intensity image scans using a stage-scanning laser microscope, rare event cells are identified, and octagonal welds are made around those cells to fuse the film to the dish. (C) The film is then peeled away from the dish. (D) The cookies containing the desired cells remain on the dish so that the cells may be analyzed further or subsequently cloned. Fig. 6. The cited observations suggest that it is possible to identify potato cultivars with low or high phenolic acid content for human use and to select processing conditions that minimize losses of phenolic compounds. In summary, the methods we developed and used to determine the content and distribution of phenolic compounds in potato plant flowers, leaves, and tubers, in the peel and flesh parts of potato tubers, and in freeze-dried and processed commercial potatoes merit application in numerous studies designed to assess the role of potato phenolic compounds in host-plant resistance, plant breeding, plant molecular biology, food chemistry, nutrition, and medicine. The described wide distribution of phenolic compounds in different commercial... [Pg.149]

The tuber samples should be selected at random and be representative of the entire batch in question. The samples should be evaluated for specific gravity and graded for size and absence of external and internal defects. A sub-sample should be Ified and if the fry color is not satisfactory, a reducing sugar evaluation should be made and the strategies for storage and end use followed as recommended above. The appearance and size of tubers are important to the user, and cleaning, uniformity of shape and size, depth of eyes, flesh color, and peel are very important in terms of... [Pg.173]
