While the guidance provided in this book is designed to minimize exposure to weapons of mass destruction, it will not eliminate the possibility for exposure. An example that alterations in the ubiquitin-proteasome system may be a primary event in AD, after ABP-induced toxicity or accumulation, was provided by Konishi et al. (273), who found that frameshift ubiquitin-B was present in subjects with AD pathology prior to development of dementia, probably accumulating in the initial steps of AD pathogenesis, whereas complement proteins were detected in AD patients but not in subjects with AD pathology and no symptoms of dementia, indicating the involvement of complement proteins in the later stage of dementia (273).

Although the ideal course would be to consider the symptoms as the behavioral manifestations of an underlying cerebral pathology and to formulate subsequent treatment plans on this assumption, currently most treatments are dictated by a specific diagnosis. 

Presently, ABL is not a curable disease, but the associated morbidity and premature death are preventable. Thus, early diagnosis and treatment are essential to avoid secondary neurological and ophthalmic pathologies and to provide an opportunity of a normal life for affected individuals. Initiation of treatment, after delayed diagnosis and symptomatic development, can prevent further progression of symptoms.
