Partnership planning

Coordination is needed on a global scale to fulfill registrants role and commitment to make EDS a reality in NAFTA and OECD countries. To accomplish all this, well-defined plans need to be developed through an industry-government partnership and followed up with specific actions. 

We prepared our science advisors with training on how to interact effectively with teachers and students, and we developed an Education Resource Center where they could borrow both activity plans and equipment to help their teachers do interesting hands-on science activities in their classes. This resource center was stocked both with commercial educational materials, as well as selected surplus equipment. Computers turned out to be particularly popular items—we now loan out on an annual basis about 200 computers that are outmoded for our technical purposes, but that the schools are delighted to have. At the request of teachers, our science advisors have ended up doing many of the same things as the School Partnership participants. About 50% of them do at least some activities directly with students. Others provide help in understanding science content, coordinate access to the resource center, assist with science fairs, and provide support for teachers in a variety of other ways. 

Patients should play an active role in their therapy. The development of a health care provider-patient partnership is vital to the success of any treatment plan. Goals for asthma treatment should be shared with the patient and family, and the patient and health care provider should jointly agree on the patient s personal treatment goals. 

A 320-kilowatt hybrid system is also in the planning stages. An initial commercial offering of a one MW fuel cell-microturbine power plant in late 2002 will be the end results of this Department of Energy/Siemens Westinghouse partnership program (70).

Invested Assets. These are certificates of deposit of more than one year, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, business interests, partnership interests, mortgages, real estate, annuities, and retirement plans. 

Irish wind power company Airtricity, in partnership with GE Energy, recently completed the Arklow Bank Wind Park in the Irish Sea. The park has seven GE 3.6-megawatt turbines and can power approximately 16,000 homes per year. In 2007, Farm Energy, a wind power company in the U.K., released plans for the Atlantic Array farm off the British coast that include 370 turbines capable of generating 1,500 megawatts.
