P-Cresol 4-methylphenol

In this study, the kinetics of horseradish peroxidase-catalyzed oxidation of p-cresol (4-methylphenol) is evaluated in a number of representative water-miscible organic solvents. Cresol is one of the most common phenols used in the phenolic resin industry (X) and is an excellent substrate of peroxidase (JL2.). The stoichiometry of peroxidase catalysis is described in Equation 1. The predominant products in aqueous solutions are... [Pg.142]

Cresol and hippuric acid are included among uremic toxins. p-Cresol (4-methylphenol) is a volatile, low-molecular-weight phenolic compound that is largely protein-bound, mainly to albumin, with partial lipophilic properties. It is related to several biochemical, biological, and physiological functions at concentrations currently observed in uremia. [Pg.2387]

To better understand how the complex phenolics produced by biomass pyrolysis can be chemically incorporated into the PF resin network, we used a series of phenolic model compounds to study the reaction rate and the gelation processes under conditions typically used to synthesize PF resins. The model compounds (Figure 1) include 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol, 4-methylcatechol, 2-methylphenol (o-cresol), 4-methylphenol (p-cresol), phenol, 4,4 -isopropylidenediphenol (Bisphenol A), and trisphenol. Figure 1 also shows the number of reactive sites (f) on each model compound. [Pg.176]

Dissolved in n-hexane at room temperature, then cooled with rapid stirring, to -60°. The ppte was separated, redissolved in hexane, and the process was repeated until the mother liquor was no longer coloured. The final product was stored under N2 at 0° [Blanchard J Am Chem Soc 82 2014 7960]. Also crystd from EtOH, MeOH, benzene, n-hexane, methylcyclohexane or pet ether (b 60-80°), and dried under vacuum. [Pg.194]
