Oxidizing agents, pyrotechnic

Use Oxidizing agent, pyrotechnics and safety matches, glass, storage batteries. [Pg.221]

Lead dioxide is electrically conductive and is formed ia place as the active material of the positive plates of lead-acid storage batteries. Because it is a vigorous oxidizing agent when heated, it is used ia the manufacture of dyes, chemicals, matches (qv), pyrotechnics (qv), and Hquid polysulfide polymers (42) (see Polypous containing sulfur). [Pg.69]

KNO3, a powerful oxidizing agent now used mainly in gunpowders and pyrotechnics, and in fertilizers. [Pg.73]

Ref A. Stettbacher, Explosivst 1956,27 Aluminum Flares are military devices contg pyrotechnic compns which are mixts of finely powdered substances compressed into candles. The most important ingredients in a pyrotechnic compn are the fuel and the oxidizing agent. To these are usually added other materials to intensify the color of the light produced, decrease the burning rate, act as a binder and waterproof the compn... [Pg.152]

Chlorate. Potassium chlorate, [CAS 3811-04-9], chlorate of potash, KCIO, white solid, soluble, mp about 350°C, powerful oxidizing agent, and consequently a fire hazard with dry organic materials, such as clothes, and with sulfur upon heating oxygen is liberated and the residue is potassium chloride formed by electrolysis of potassium chloride solution under proper conditions, Used (l)m matches, (2) in pyrotechnics, (3) as disinfectant, (4) as a source of oxygen upon heating, (Hazardous Use of potassium perchlorate is recommended instead )... [Pg.1361]

Pb chromate is a powerful oxidizing agent which sometimes causes explns when in contact with org material. For example, Daniel (Ref 1) reported cases where org objects(such as paper lamp shades) covered with Pb chromate paint ignited spontaneously or even exploded. Toxicity fire hazards are discussed in Ref 10 Uses Pb chromate has been used as a yel pigment in paints and as a component of pyrotechnic compns of delay compns in fuzes(Refs 7,9 12). It was also used in pyrotechnic smokes(Ref 4a,p 122) and in some older types expls, such as Cornil and Halakite. Hale(Ref 3) proposed the following delay compn for fuzes ... [Pg.63]

Potassium chlorate is used as an oxidizing agent in vat dyeing, for printed ealico, for pyrotechnical purposes but mainly in the manufacture of matches. For pharmaceutical use, the so called santonine form of fine, scale shaped crystals is sometimes demanded. These are formed by the saturated solutions when they are slowly cooled. [Pg.372]

Uses As oxidizing agent in primer caps in combination with mercury fulminate and with red phosphorus, antimony sulfide, and other combustible substances,1 P36. In pyrotechnic mixtures as component of airplane flares, stars for aerial bombs and for signaling, maroons, white and colored smokes. As component of Permissibles. In incendiary projectiles, P5. [Pg.124]

Anhydrous perchloric acid is a powerful oxidizing agent that reacts explosively with many organic and inorganic materials. On decomposition, various gaseous products are formed. However, aqueous solutions of perchloric acid are not oxidizing at room temperature. This is explained on the basis of kinetic activation barriers. Most metals form perchlorate salts, and even molecular compounds, such as NO and NO2, also react with it to form ionic compoimds such as [NO]+ [0104]. Ammonium perchlorate is used as a solid-fuel propellant, particularly in missiles. Potassium perchlorate is also used in pyrotechnic formulations such as fireworks and flares. [Pg.755]

Use Oxidizing agent, depolarizer in dry cell batteries (African and synthetic types only), pyrotechnics, matches, etc., catalyst, laboratory reagent, scavenger and decolorizer, textile dyeing, source of metallic manganese (as pyrolusite). [Pg.786]

Use Oxidizing agent, explosives, matches, source of oxygen, textile printing, pyrotechnics, percussion caps, disinfectant, bleaching. [Pg.1028]

Use Explosives, oxidizing agent, photography, pyrotechnics and flares, reagent, oxidizer in solid rocket propellants. [Pg.1034]

Use Oxidizing agent solid rocket propellants fertilizer flux glass manufacture pyrotechnics reagent refrigerant matches dynamites black powders manufacture of sodium salts and nitrates dyes pharmaceuticals an aphrodisiac color fixative and preservative in cured meats, fish, etc. enamel for pottery modifying burning properties of tobacco. [Pg.1150]
