Various works of literature aim to prepare titanium oxide nanosized or nanostructured to improve performance in power. [Pg.409]

There is currently considerable interest in processing polymeric composite materials filled with nanosized rigid particles. This class of material called "nanocomposites" describes two-phase materials where one of the phases has at least one dimension lower than 100 nm [13]. Because the building blocks of nanocomposites are of nanoscale, they have an enormous interface area. Due to this there are a lot of interfaces between two intermixed phases compared to usual microcomposites. In addition to this, the mean distance between the particles is also smaller due to their small size which favors filler-filler interactions [14]. Nanomaterials not only include metallic, bimetallic and metal oxide but also polymeric nanoparticles as well as advanced materials like carbon nanotubes and dendrimers. However considering environmetal hazards, research has been focused on various means which form the basis of green nanotechnology. [Pg.119]

The coprecipitation (CP) method was the first method that was found to be effective in depositing nanosized gold particles on base metal oxide surfaces [1, 16]. In this method, an aqueous solution of HAuCLj and the nitrate of a base metal is poured, under vigorous stirring, into an aqueous solution of Na2C03 at 70°C in a short period (within 3 min). The adequate concentration of both the solutions is 0.1-0.4M. The pH of the mixed solution can be maintained at about 9 by using... [Pg.53]

The selectivity of the catalyst is of major importance in the case of chlorinated VOCs the oxidation products should not contain even more harmful compounds than the parent-molecule, for example, formation of dioxins should be avoided. In addition, the minimization of CI2 and maximization of HCl in a product gas should be achieved [61]. These are just a few examples of why researchers are continuing the search for VOC oxidation catalysts as well as new reactor concepts. The new possibilities include, for example, utilization of nanosized gold catalysts in the oxidation of sulfur-containing VOCs and microwave-assisted processes where combination of adsorption and oxidation is used in low-concentration VOC oxidation [62, 63]. [Pg.152]

The search for better catalysts has been facilitated in recent years by molecular modeling. We are seeing here a step change. This is the subject of Chapter 1 (Molecular Catalytic Kinetics Concepts). New types of catalysts appeared to be more selective and active than conventional ones. Tuned mesoporous catalysts, gold catalysts, and metal organic frameworks (MOFs) that are discussed in Chapter 2 (Hierarchical Porous Zeolites by Demetallation, 3 (Preparation of Nanosized Gold Catalysts and Oxidation at Room Temperature), and 4 (The Fascinating Structure... [Pg.389]

A 5 wt.% CoOx/Ti02 catalyst gave the most promising activity for continuous catalytic wet oxidation of trichloroethylene at 310 K with a unsteady-state behavior up to 1 h. The catalyst after the oxidation possessed a Co 2p3/2 main peak at 779.8 eV, while the peak was obtained at 781.3 eV for a fiosh sample. Only reflections for C03O4 were indicated for these samples upon XRD measurements. The simplest model for nanosized C03O4 particles existing with the fi"esh catalyst could reasonably explain the transient activity behavior. [Pg.305]

The electron interaction between nanosized gold particles and iron oxide support is only one factor which determines the properties of the gold/oxide system. For instance, in the Au/FeO,c/Si02/Si(l 0 0) model sample the depth profile (after successive Ar ion bombardment at a... [Pg.100]

Waszczuk et al., 2001b Tong et al., 2002]. Because Ru is deposited as nanosized Ru islands of monoatomic height, the Ru coverage of Pt could be determined accurately. In that case, the best activity with regard to methanol oxidation was found for a Ru coverage close to 40-50% at 0.3 and 0.5 V vs. RHE. However, the structure of such catalysts and the conditions of smdy are far from those used in DMFCs. Moreover, the surface composition of a bimetallic catalyst likely depends on the method of preparation of the catalyst [Caillard et al., 2006] and on the potential [Blasini et al., 2006]. [Pg.350]
