Oxidation concentric shells

Carbon nanotubes have been successfully used as removable templates for the synthesis of a variety of oxide nanotubes. Ajayan et al.9 reported the preparation of V205 nanotubes by using partially oxidized carbon nanotubes as templates. Apart from coating of CNTs by the oxide phase, metal oxide fillings in the internal cavities and thin oxide layers between the concentric shells of the tubes were also obtained (Fig. 30). A mix-... [Pg.469]

The synthesis of V2 02,45(alkylamine) nanotubes, by a sol-gel reaction using vanadium oxide triisopropoxide in the presence of hexadecyl amine template and hydrothermal treatment was descrihed [6, 31]. These nanotuhes consist of concentric shells with alternating V202.45(alkylamine) layers. Most of them are obtained as scrolls. Further studies [61] showed that the nanotuhe material could he used as a li insertion electrode. To obtain the electrode material, the nanotubes were refluxed, first, for 24 hours in ethanolic solution of NaCl, in order to remove the hexadecylamine template. Sodium ions were intercalated between... [Pg.272]

The per pass ethylene conversion in the primary reactors is maintained at 20—30% in order to ensure catalyst selectivities of 70—80%. Vapor-phase oxidation inhibitors such as ethylene dichloride or vinyl chloride or other halogenated compounds are added to the inlet of the reactors in ppm concentrations to retard carbon dioxide formation (107,120,121). The process stream exiting the reactor may contain 1—3 mol % ethylene oxide. This hot effluent gas is then cooled ia a shell-and-tube heat exchanger to around 35—40°C by usiag the cold recycle reactor feed stream gas from the primary absorber. The cooled cmde product gas is then compressed ia a centrifugal blower before entering the primary absorber. [Pg.457]

Another electro-oxidation example catalyzed by bimetallic nanoparticles was reported by D Souza and Sam-path [206]. They prepared Pd-core/Pt-shell bimetallic nanoparticles in a single step in the form of sols, gels, and monoliths, using organically modified silicates, and demonstrated electrocatalysis of ascorbic acid oxidation. Steady-state response of Pd/Pt bimetallic nanoparticles-modified glassy-carbon electrode for ascorbic acid oxidation was rather fast, of the order of a few tens of seconds, and the linearity was observed between the electric current and the concentration of ascorbic acid. [Pg.68]

In a suspension roaster, the concentrates are blown into a combustion chamber. The roaster consists of a refractory-lined cylindrical shell, with a large combustion space at the top and two to four hearths in the lower portion. Additional grinding, beyond that required for a multiple-hearth furnace, is normally required to ensure that heat transfer to the material is sufficiently rapid for the desulfurization and oxidation reaction to occur in the furnace chamber. Suspension roasters are also unpressurized and operate at about 980°C (1800°F). [Pg.91]

The trapping of allyl radicals with other open-shell species can be studied in all reactions in which a sufficiently high concentration of radicals is created and in which the concentration of nonradical trapping agents is low. This prerequisite has been met in Kolbe electrolysis reactions, in which radicals are generated by one-electron oxidation of carboxylate anions. One of the simplest systems, the reaction of methyl radicals with... [Pg.637]
