Overlap shapes

Keister, B.D., 1983, Multiple scattering in closely packed systems of arbitrary non-overlapping shapes. Annals of Phys. 149 162. [Pg.490]

Then, the weld depths penetration are controlled in a pulse-echo configuration because the weld bead (of width 2 mm) disturbs the detection when the pump and the probe beams are shifted of 2.2 mm. The results are presented in figure 8 (identical experimental parameters as in figure 7). The slow propagation velocities for gold-nickel alloy involve that the thermal component does not overlap the ultrasonic components, in particular for the echo due to the interaction with a lack of weld penetration. The acoustic response (V shape) is still well observed both for the slot of height 1.7 mm and for a weld depth penetration of 0.8 mm (lack of weld penetration of 1.7 mm), even with the weld bead. This is hopeful with regard to the difficulties encountered by conventional ultrasound in the case of the weld depths penetration. [Pg.698]

When elements in Period 2 form covalent bonds, the 2s and 2p orbitals can be mixed or hybridised to form new, hybrid orbitals each of which has. effectively, a single-pear shape, well suited for overlap with the orbital of another atom. Taking carbon as an example the four orbitals 2s.2p.2p.2p can all be mixed to form four new hybrid orbitals (called sp because they are formed from one s and three p) these new orbitals appear as in Figure 2.9. i.e. they... [Pg.55]

The pattern of mo energies can often be guessed by using qualitative information about the energies, overlaps, directions, and shapes of the aos that comprise the mos. [Pg.163]

A bond m which the orbitals overlap along a line connecting the atoms (the inter nuclear axis) is called a sigma (a) bond The electron distribution m a ct bond is cylm drically symmetric were we to slice through a ct bond perpendicular to the mternuclear axis Its cross section would appear as a circle Another way to see the shape of the elec tron distribution is to view the molecule end on... [Pg.60]

The limits of pore size corresponding to each process will, of course, depend both on the pore geometry and the size of the adsorbate molecule. For slit-shaped pores the primary process will be expected to be limited to widths below la, and the secondary to widths between 2a and 5ff. For more complicated shapes such as interstices between small spheres, the equivalent diameter will be somewhat higher, because of the more effective overlap of adsorption fields from neighbouring parts of the pore walls. The tertiary process—the reversible capillary condensation—will not be able to occur at all in slits if the walls are exactly parallel in other pores, this condensation will take place in the region between 5hysteresis loop and in a pore system containing a variety of pore shapes, reversible capillary condensation occurs in such pores as have a suitable shape alongside the irreversible condensation in the main body of pores. [Pg.244]

Fluidyibsorbamy. Fluids like ink penetrate into paper during the printing process. The further the ink penetrates, the less glossy the print. The degree of penetration in paper is generally a function of the paper porosity and wettabiUty by the fluid. It can be controlled by the particle size, shape, and chemical nature of the filler or filler surface. In particular, plate-like fillers, such as clays, tend to produce the best fluid holdout because they tend to overlap and reduce the porosity at the paper surface (see Inks). [Pg.370]

The ortho hydrogen atoms surrounding the central carbon atom show considerable steric overlap. Therefore, it can be assumed that the three aryl groups in the dye are not coplanar, but are twisted in such a fashion that the shape of the dye resembles that of a three-bladed propeller (9). Substitution in the para position of the three aryl groups determines the hue of the dye. When only one amino group is present, as in fuchsoriimine hydrochloride [84215-84-9] = 440 nm (2), the shade is a weak orange-yeUow. [Pg.267]

Overlapped footed. L-shaped aluminum fin wrapped under tension over the outside surface or a tube, with the tube fully covered by the overlapped feet under and between the fins. [Pg.1079]

ANALYSIS OF OVERLAPPING PEAK-SHAPED ANALYTICAL SIGNALS BY THE TRIANGLE HEIGHT... [Pg.44]

To sum up, in some instances the proposed tangent method and procedure of systematic error correction allows excluding the necessity of mathematical or chemical resolution of overlapped peak-shaped analytical signals. [Pg.44]

For many applications, quantitative band shape analysis is difficult to apply. Bands may be numerous or may overlap, the optical transmission properties of the film or host matrix may distort features, and features may be indistinct. If one can prepare samples of known properties and collect the FTIR spectra, then it is possible to produce a calibration matrix that can be used to assist in predicting these properties in unknown samples. Statistical, chemometric techniques, such as PLS (partial least-squares) and PCR (principle components of regression), may be applied to this matrix. Chemometric methods permit much larger segments of the spectra to be comprehended in developing an analysis model than is usually the case for simple band shape analyses. [Pg.422]

As an example, consider again the back surface of the silicon wafer used in the mechanical profiler example. Eigure 4a, an SEM micrograph taken at 45° tilt, shows a surface covered with various sized square-shaped features that often overlap. This information cannot be discerned from the mechanical profiler trace, but can be obtained using a 3D optical profiler measurement. Eigures 4b and 4c are also... [Pg.701]
