Outcomes emergent

A very exciting outcome emerging from these partnerships is the future collaborations that they are stimulating. Individuals who have collaborated for the very first time under the ATP continue to do so and have a greater tendency to collaborate in the future. We are encouraging this collaboration and would like to see more of it in our projects. [Pg.120]

Generally, risk assessment has focused on the first type of error, since the main interest in human reliability was in the context of human actions that were required as part of an emergency response. However, a comprehensive Consequence Analysis has to also consider other types, since both of these outcomes could constitute sources of risk to the individual or the plant. [Pg.216]

Consider a head-on collision between particles incoming along directions cp and Cfc+3. There are two possible outcomes such that both particle number and momentum are conserved the output must consist of two particles emerging either along directions c +i and 3 +4 (figure 9.10-b) or along Cfc i and (figure 9.10-c). We can either have the system always choose the same output channel, which... [Pg.492]

Most traditional models focus on looking for equilibrium solutions among some set of (pre-defined) aggregate variables. The LEs are effectively mean-field equations, in which certain variables (i.e. attrition rate) are assumed to represent an entire force, the equilibrium state is explicitly solved for and declared the battle outcome. In contrast, ABMs focus on understanding the kinds of emergent patterns that might arise while the overall system is out of (or far from) equilibrium. [Pg.601]

A confusing picture emerges from the stereochemical outcome of the Mukaiyama variation of the aldol addition. The titanium(IV) chloride mediated addition of silylketene acetals to isobutyraldehyde confirms this statement while there is a reasonable correlation between the predominance of the (/t)-silylkctenc acetal 2 over the (Z)-acetal, and the favored formation of the an/t -carboxylic ester over the. svn-product, the pure (Z)-diastereomer displays no syn selectivity26. [Pg.457]

Students responses to the 15 items were analysed to identify any patterns of conceptions that could emerge in their use of the triplet relationship. In general, students in the alternative instractional programme displayed a high level of proficiency in the use of the triplet relationship though several student conceptions were evident despite the emphasis that was placed to facilitate their understanding of the triplet relationship. This outcome was not unexpected as student conceptions, by nature, are often resistant to instruction (Bodner, 1986). [Pg.162]

Lok and McMahon 2007), but the ideal outcome is undetectable HBV DNA (< 10-30lU/ml) in highly sensitive real-time PCR-based assays. In HBeAg-positive patients, loss of HBeAg followed by the emergence of anti-HBe antibodies ( e seroconversion) indicates a sustained response to therapy when it persists after treatment cessation. HBs seroconversion (loss of HBsAg and emergence of anti-HBs antibodies) is the most desirable endpoint, as it indicates a complete response with sustained remission from HBV disease. It is rarely achieved with cnrrent therapies. [Pg.221]

Another important outcome of the structural analysis is the relative positioning of the metal sites and their distances in order to define plausible electron transfer pathways between electron donors and acceptors. A common pattern starts to emerge (the same applies to cytochrome oxidase (241, 242). Figure 11 gives a pictorial view of the electron transfer pathway ... [Pg.409]

Even the optimization of outcome distributions does not normally take account of the value of flexibility (i.e., by reacting to project events and flnd-ings as they emerge, one can make better decisions for the future than could be made in advance of the project, planning blind ). [Pg.254]

Since functional outcome and risk of recurrent stroke are, in part, predictable based on the pathophysiologic subtype of stroke, the ability to accurately classify patients based on emergency clinical and imaging data would provide valuable predictive information. Unfortunately, misclassifications of stroke subtypes based on clinical data and a noncontrast CT scan are common. The final subtyping of stroke is made with all available clinical data, but is heavily influenced by neuroimaging studies that identify the location, size, and vascular distribution of the infarct, or that establish that the arteries supplying the region of stroke are stenotic or occluded. [Pg.200]
