Tran orm-based or long-range strategies The retrosynthetic analysis is directed toward the application of powerful synthesis transforms. Functional groups are introduced into the target compound in order to establish the retion of a certain goal transform (e.g., the transform for the Diels-Alder reaction, Robinson annulation, Birch reduction, halolactonization, etc.).

The Pd-catalyzed hydrogenoiysis of acyl chlorides with hydrogen to give aldehydes is called the Rosenmund reduction. Rosenmund reduction catalyzed by supported Pd is explained by the formation of an acylpalladium complex and its hydrogenolysis[744]. Aldehydes can be obtained using other hydrides. For example, the Pd-catalyzed reaction of acyl halides with tin hydride gives aldehydes[745]. This is the tin Form of Rosenmund reduction. Aldehydes are i ormed by the reaction of the thio esters 873 with hydrosilanes[746,747]. 

Adipic acid is shipped in quantities ranging from 22.7 kg (50-lb bags) to 90.9 t (200,000-lb hopper cars). Upon long standing, the soHd material tends to cake, dependent on such factors as initial particle size and moisture content. Shipping data in the United States are "Adipic Acid," DOT-ID ALT 9077, DOT Hazard Class ORM-E. It is regulated only in packages of 2.3 t (5,000 lb) or more (hopper cars and pressure-differential cars and tmcks) (157).

ORM-A—A materieil which has an anesthetic, irritating, noxious, toxic, or other similar property and which can cause extreme annoyance or discomfort to passengers and crew in the event of leakage during transportation. (Sec. 173.500 (a),(l))... 

ORM-C—A material which has other inherent characteristics not desribed as an ORM-A or ORM-B but which make it unsuitable for shipment, unless properly identified and prepared for transportation. Each ORM-C materials specifically named in Sec. 172.101. (Sec. 173.500 (a)(4))... 

Corrosion Rate—the rate at which corrosion occurs. It is usually reported in units of inches of penetration per year (ipy), mils of penetration per year (mpy), milligrams of weight loss per square decimeter per day (mdd) microns per year Orm/yr), or millimeters per year (mmpy). Note that 1/am = 0.0395 mils.
