Organo-silicates

Silicate binders are used in conjunction with zinc powder to give paints of excellent corrosion resistance. The organo-silicates, e.g. ethyl orthosilicate, are most commonly used. The full potential of this type of binder has probably not yet been exploited. [Pg.585]

In conclusion, exfoliated sheets of Mg-phyllo(organo)silicates containing pendant amino groups have been used to stabilize Au, Ag, Pd and Pt nanopartides. The nanoparticle-decorated day sheets can be easily dispersed in water. These metal nanopartides... [Pg.502]

If one produces the polymer-silicate nanocomposite in solution then the organo-silicate swells in the polar solvent such as toluene or iV -dimethylformamide. Then the added is the solution of the polymer which enters the interlayer space of the silicate. The removing of the solvent by means of evaporation in vacuiun happens after that. The main advantage of the given method is that polymer-layered silicate might be produced fi om the polymer of low polarity or even non-polar one. However this method is not widely used in industiy because of much solvent consumption [52]. [Pg.52]

In this review, we will predominantly describe the various aspects of PO/organo-silicate (or silica) nanocomposites and the most significant results reported recently in this field. General principle of preparing the PO nanocomposites through reactive extrusion in situ processing can be schematically represented as follows (Figure 4.1). [Pg.89]

Alternatives to ion exchange include silane treatment of exposed hydroxyls, generally located on the edge of the silicate layers, to produce covalently bound organic functionalities, or the use of copolymers as compatibilizers in otherwise incompatible systems. Specifically, copolymers containing at least one segment with an affinity to the (organo)silicate (polar or hydrophyllic polymers) typically may be added as compatibilizers by themselves or in addition to others already found in the system. [Pg.383]

A controlled method of introducing reinforcement into mbbers is by precipitating chemically generated fillers into network stmctures rather than blending badly agglomerated filler particles into elastomers prior to their aoss-linking. This has been done for several systems, that is, silica by hydrolysis of organo-silicates, titania from titanates, alumina from aluminates, and so on. "" A typical, and important, reaction is the acid- or base-catalyzed hydrolysis of tetraethylorthosilicate ... [Pg.193]

Nomenclature used in the organo-silicate literature, alcohol condensation and water condensation, is equivalent to the terminology, alcoxolation and oxolation, used in the discussion of inorganic polymerization in the previous chapter. [Pg.62]

In the case of layered silicates, the filler is present in the form of sheets one to a few nanometer thick and hundreds to thousands nanometer long. In general, the organically modified silicate nanolayers are referred to as nanodays or organo-silicates [12]. It is important to know that the physical mixttue of a polymer and layered silicate may not form nanocomposites [13]. Pristine-layered sUicates usually contain hydrated Na" " or K ions [13]. To render layered silicates misdble with other polymer matrices, it is required to convert the normally hydrophUic sUicate surface into an organophilic one, which can be carried out by ion-exchange reactions with... [Pg.3]
