Another group has evaluated self-organizing maps [63] and shape/ pharmacophore models [64]. They developed a new method termed SQUIRREL to compare molecules in terms of both shape and pharmacophore points. Thus from a commercial library of 199,272 compounds, 1926 were selected based on self-organizing maps trained on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor a (PPARa) "activity islands." The compounds were further evaluated with SQUIRREL and 7 out of 21 molecules selected were found to be active in PPARa. Furthermore, a new virtual screening technique (PhAST) was developed based on representation of molecules as text strings that describe their pharmacophores [65]. [Pg.417]

It would be irresponsible to focus solely on research and development, while ignoring potentially simpler, faster, or less expensive mechanisms, such as organization, staff, training, and procurement. All health establishments must be surveyed and evaluated for the tasks of being prepared and responding adequately to potential terrorist violence. Not only should a special attention be paid to supplies of antidotes, drugs, ventilators, personal protective equipment and decontamination capacity, but the spotlight must also be fixed on an insufficient familiarity of medical stuff with the acute effects and treatment of chemical weapons. [Pg.75]

To create more inclusive organizations, leadership training needs to be geared toward instilling the values, norms of behavior, mindsets, and processes listed in the right-hand column, Inclusive Relational-Based Leadership, in organizational systems and processes. Inclusive leadership skills that focus on collective relational practice are more complex than those needed in traditional leader-focused leadership styles, which emphasize the leader s individual or relational identity they are also more difficult to develop and to attain. It is also conceivable that most of the foundational individual and interpersonal traditional leadership competencies, as depicted in Table 10.1, are prerequisites for the development of the more complex collective relational practices needed for inclusive leadership. [Pg.303]

One of the major activities conducted by a safety and health professional is education and training of virtually all levels within the company or organization. This training, often compliance-driven, has traditionally been lecture, lecture and videotape, or lecture with supplemental activities. No matter which technique was utilized, employees were primarily talked at with a period at the end of the session for questions. This type of compliance training is often dry and canned, and primarily developed to meet training schedules. [Pg.113]
