Organic solvents resistance

Poor resistance to oils and organic solvents. SBR swells in organic solvents and absorbs oils. Vulcanization is necessary to increase oil and organic solvent resistance. [Pg.654]

A variety of synthetic polymers, including polycarbonate resins, substituted olefins, and polyelectrolyte complexes, are employed as ultrafiltration membranes. Many of these membranes can be handled dry, have superior organic solvent resistance, and are less sensitive to temperature and pH than cellulose acetate, which is widely used in RO systems. [Pg.345]

Polyesters are, in general, organic solvent resistant. They show excellent room temperature resistance to organic solvents, such as hydrocarbons, alcohols, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. At slightly elevated temperatures of approximately 60 °C, alcohols and aromatic solvents can damage the polymer. Strong acids and bases can cause chemical damage to polyesters, as can ketones and phenols. [Pg.379]

A BDS patent [106] was awarded for the use of biocatalysts belonging to the group of Pseudomonas, Flavobacterium, Enterobacter, Aeromonas, Bacillus, or Corynebac-terium. One of the strains P. putida was further developed by mutation of the parent strain to obtain organic solvent-resistant mutants [107], The mutated strains were screened by selective cultivation in the presence of 0.1% to 10% by volume (v/v) of concentrations of a toxic organic solvent. The specific mutated strains obtained were P. putida No. 69-1 (PERM BP-4519), P. putida No. 69-2 (PERM BP-4520), and P. putida No. 69-3 (PERM BP-4521). [Pg.83]

Kurane, R., and Tsubata, T., Method for obtaining organic solvent-resistant, microorganisms and organic solvent-resistant microorganisms obtainable by the method. Patent No. US5804435. 1998, Sep. 08. [Pg.209]

In Section 23.1 of this Chapter, the method for obtaining organic solvent-resistant microorganisms was described. This invention was awarded to AIST [103] and was shared with Tonen Corp. The microorganisms capable of desulfurization were mutated without jeopardizing the BDS catalytic properties leading to development of three P. putida strains reported in Section 23.1. [Pg.359]

Membrane type Application Compatibility Hydrophilicity Organic solvent resistance Protein binding... [Pg.197]

Properties Crystalline powder. Mp 179-182C. Slightly soluble in water soluble in most organic solvents, resistant to hydrolysis, a chelating nonionizing compound. Combustible. [Pg.554]

High mechanical strength, water repellency, solubility in organic solvents. Resistant to acids, alkalis, salts, to atmospheric conditions and fungi, combustible with difficulty, has good dielectric properties. [Pg.28]

As its name implies, sandwich separators are usually composed of two separate organic solvent resistant plastic blocks, furnished with grooves or cavities, with a mi-croporous membrane sandwiched in between. Sometimes the membranes are supported by PTFE coated metal filter screens to improve the durability of the membranes [10]. [Pg.55]

Hydrolysis of EVA copolymers yields ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymers (EVOH). EVOH has exceptional gas barrier properties as well as oil and organic solvent resistance. The poor moisture resistance of EVOH is overcome by coating, coextrusion, and lamination with other substrates. [Pg.431]

The water and organic solvent resistance was tested and the solubility in water, ethanol and acetone was evaluated (Table 6). [Pg.346]

In this study, aqueous hybrid polyurethane-urea-acrylic/styrene polymer dispersions were obtained using four different methods. The dispersions are stable and their viscosity, and pH as well as average particle size and particle size distribution are similar to those observed for DPUR. Most of the hybrid dispersions formed transparent films of good mechanical properties, water resistance and organic solvent resistance. [Pg.330]

Novolac polymers are soluble in a variety of common organic solvents. Resist films are typically cast from organic solutions (propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, or PGMEA, is a common solvent) to form isotropic, glassy, thin films. These polymers are also soluble in aqueous alkaline solutions due to the presence of the acidic phenolic functionalities on the polymer backbone. It is this base solubility that is exploited in the development process. In order to print a relief image in a photoresist, it must be possible to modify the dissolution rate of the resist upon exposure to radiation. It is not the... [Pg.3321]

There are so-called organic solvent-resistant rubbers and heat-resistant rubbers. Also, there are rubbers that contain microcrystalline parts or molecular associations even in their solution state. NBR, CR, Z,... [Pg.188]

Chitin and chitosan have high organic solvent resistance, which is advantageous for separation membranes used with organic solvents, where chemical resistance is typical. Specifically, chitin is highly acid resistant and chitosan is highly alkaline resistant. These characteristics make it possible for chitin and chitosan to be used as separation membranes for a variety of uses in response to specific requirements. [Pg.481]

Resistance Resistance inferior to that of polyamine epoxy only partially resistant to acids, acid salts, alkalies and organic solvents resistant to moisture. [Pg.334]
