Organic chemicals chlorinated materials

Waste should always be disposed of in accordance with all applicable regulations. Waste should be segregated according to institutional requirements, for example, into solid, aqueous, nonchlorinated organic, and chlorinated organic material. A collection (Lunn and San-sone, 1994) of techniques for the disposal of chemicals in laboratories has been published recently. Incorporation of these procedures into laboratory protocols can help to minimize waste disposal problems.

The term Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) was first used to describe a process that produces hydroxyl radicals ( OH) for the oxidation of organic and inorganic water imparities. AOPs can have mnltiple nses in water treatment. Examples include oxidation of synthetic organic chemicals (SOCs), color, taste-and-odor causing compounds, sulfide, iron, and manganese, and destraction of DBP precursor material prior to the addition of chlorine. 

The chemical and physical nature of the organic material can effect the behavior of lead. The presence of chloride either as ion or as organically bound chlorine can lead to serious losses of lead even at temperatures below 450 C. Addition of sulfuric acid reduces the loss In the presence of chloride Ion but has little effect In the presence of covalently bound chlorine. This suggests that all dry oxidations should probably be avoided...
