OR logic function

The flat tire example is pictured using a fault tree logic diagram, shown in Figure 11-12. The circles denote basic events and the rectangles denote intermediate events. The fishlike symbol represents the OR logic function. It means that either of the input events will cause the output state to occur. As shown in Figure 11 -12, the flat tire is caused by either debris on the road or tire failure. Similarly, the tire failure is caused by either a defective tire or a worn tire. [Pg.491]

The ingenuity of the design of these PET-based molecules with AND characteristics can be equally well expressed in a molecule which is capable of mimicking the OR logic function [11], A subtle difference in the design of compound 3 (Fig. 4), compared to that of 1, gives the former its OR characteristics. In compound 1, the fluorophore is separated from the proton receptor, which is, in turn, separated from the sodium ion receptor. [Pg.194]

NOTE 2 In batch processes an SIS may be used to select different set points or logic functions depending on the recipe being used. In these cases the operator Interface may be used to make the required selection. [Pg.65]

The reason why we find it possible to construct, say, electronic calculators, and indeed why we can perform mental arilhinelie, cannot be found in mathematics or logic. The reason is that the laws of physics happen to permit the existence of physical models for the operations of arithmetic such as addition, subtraction and multiplication. If they did not, these familiar operations would be non-computablo functions. ... [Pg.682]

Second, determine the major events that contribute to the top event. Write these down as intermediate, basic, undeveloped, or external events on the sheet. If these events are related in parallel (all events must occur in order for the top event to occur), they must be connected to the top event by an AND gate. If these events are related in series (any event can occur in order for the top event to occur), they must be connected by an OR gate. If the new events cannot be related to the top event by a single logic function, the new events are probably improperly specified. Remember, the purpose of the fault tree is to determine the individual event steps that must occur to produce the top event. [Pg.494]

Now consider any one of the new intermediate events. What events must occur to contribute to this single event Write these down as either intermediate, basic, undeveloped, or external events on the tree. Then decide which logic function represents the interaction of these newest events. [Pg.494]

ESD system performance is measured in terms of reliability and availability. Reliability is the probability a component or system will perform its logic function under stated operating conditions for a defined time period. Availability is the probability or mean fraction of total time that a protective component or system is able to function on demand. Increased reliability does not necessarily increase availability. [Pg.117]

Reliability - The probability that a component or system will perform its defined logic function under the stated conditions for a defined period of time. [Pg.287]

Based on the results presented, the basic logic functions NOT, AND, OR can be built using monocyclic or dicyclic enzyme systems. [Pg.11]

Unlike other authors, we choose from the beginning to characterize each element i of a system both by a logical variable ot, ( internal variable) associated with its concentration (or, more generally, its level) and by a logical function a, associated with its rate of production (or, more generally, its flux). Variable a = 1 if the concentration exceeds a functional threshold, a = 0 if not.t Function a = 1 if the rate of production... [Pg.253]

De Silva et al. [28] prepared a naphthalene derivative (3) with logic functions (Scheme 1). Here, the bromonaphthalene unit exhibits phosphorescence in the presence of both the calcium ion and (3-CD [28], However, without them, oxygen quenches the phosphorescence of 2-bromonaphthalene phosphor because the protection effect of (3-CD is absent and photoinduced electron transfer from the tetracarboxylate receptor to the 2-bromonaphthalene phosphor occurs. Thus, phosphorescence output occurs only when the calcium ion and (3-CD inputs are active. The operation of these two inputs with a phosphorescence output corresponds to the AND logic function. The input to the NOT gate is oxygen. In the presence of oxygen without either calcium or (3-CD, the AND gate is disabled. [Pg.464]

Molecules can display characteristics of electronic components such as the conduction of energy or electrons and are capable of simple Boolean logic functions. [Pg.804]
