Figure 8 shows a further advantage of the switch-board system. By plugging the fiber optics into different positions, individual resonance lines can be moved about over the screen to various positions in order to exclude flame bands which may be present in certain spectral regions, or to avoid accidental coincidence of lines [as in Figure 7 (c) for Cr and Li] due to the superposition of several spectra. 

Resins are used in electromc/electncal applications (connectors, circuit boards that are vapor and wave solderable, microwave transparent radomes, integrated circuit chip carriers, miniature switches, explosion proof enclosures, lamp reflectors, and high-precision fiber optic components). Polyetherimide is used for medical components (hat require all forms of sterilization. Other uses are found in the transportation field, dual-ovenable cookware, as well as bearings, fasteners, and advanced composites. 

Major polymer applications aircraft interiors, multipin connectors, coil bobbins, integrated circuits sockets, fiber optics connectors, dip switches, automotive fuses, printed circuit boards, transformer wire coatings, microwave cookware, sight glasses, membranes, medical applications (due to the resistance to different methods of sterilization), coatings... 

Electrical and electronic parts, various types of connectors (board-to-board connectors, flexible printed circuit connectors, card connectors, flash memory connectors, optical connectors), various types of sockets (PGA sockets, ZIF sockets, SIMM sockets, RIMM sockets, SO-DIMM sockets), relay casings, switches, quartz oscillators, piezoelectric elements, capacitors, sensors, coil bobbins, optical sensors, and encapsulant... 

Polyetherimide resins are inherently flame resistant with low smoke emission which makes PEI suited to a variety of applications in the fields of electrical equipment and electronics. In the telecommunications maiket, there is an increasing need for high heat resistant materials, especially for high-end connectors in the fibre optics segment. PEI resin offers high heat resistance as well as great flow for thin wall design. Other applications include electrical switches and controls, electrical motor parts, printed circuit boards and coimectors.
