Optical tracking systems

Each heliostat is designed to illuminate a specific area on the parabola and is equipped with a dual optical control system, which maintains the proper orientation for each hcliostat by means of a dual hydraulic system. This dual system permits each heliostat lo be operated in either a search or track mode. In both cases, the optical guidance system uses an optical tube, which contains four photodiodes that control the heliostat motion in east-west and up-down direction.

The wind systems on Jupiter and Saturn are strongly westward at the equator, with eastward jets at latitudes above and below the equator. In principle, tracking is suitable for any technology. Thus, the three-dimensional position tuid orientation of an object can be determined as free of delay and reliable. Electromagnetic, kinematics, acoustic, optical, image work processing, and inertial procedures find use for tracking tasks. In the ZAHNER controlled intensity modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (CIMPS) system, the light source and the cells are aligned on an optical track. Switching between the reference and the measurement cell is automatic. A close-up of the measurement cell is shown in Figure 15.41, set up for a study of a multilayer organic solar cell model system, shown schematically on the left side. In the PECC-2 cell shown, the reference electrode is Ag/AgCl and the CE is a Pt coil. The cell construction from PTFE or similar polymers allows the use of aggressive and nonaqueous electrolytes. 

Note that the majority of modern image-guided systems utilize optical tracking. Electromagnetic tracking systems are also sometimes utilized however, these systems typically have lower accuracy than optical systems. 

In addition, we present a practical concept to accurately track an object s position and orientation in 3D space. Our approach overcomes the disadvantages associated with the most popular tracking systems used in image-guided surgery, e.g., optical and electromagnetic trackers.
