Spectroscopy optical electronic

To study the interaction of adsorbed molecules with active sites in decationized zeolites we used optical electronic spectroscopy, which was successful (17-19) with silica-alumina catalysts. The results (17-19) were then extrapolated to zeolites 20-21). [Pg.243]

Much of the previous section dealt with two-level systems. Real molecules, however, are not two-level systems for many purposes there are only two electronic states that participate, but each of these electronic states has many states corresponding to different quantum levels for vibration and rotation. A coherent femtosecond pulse has a bandwidth which may span many vibrational levels when the pulse impinges on the molecule it excites a coherent superposition of all tliese vibrational states—a vibrational wavepacket. In this section we deal with excitation by one or two femtosecond optical pulses, as well as continuous wave excitation in section A 1.6.4 we will use the concepts developed here to understand nonlinear molecular electronic spectroscopy. [Pg.235]

This is the classic work on molecular rotational, vibrational and electronic spectroscopy. It provides a comprehensive coverage of all aspects of infrared and optical spectroscopy of molecules from the traditional viewpoint and, both for perspective and scope, is an invaluable supplement to this section. [Pg.282]

Because of the generality of the symmetry principle that underlies the nonlinear optical spectroscopy of surfaces and interfaces, the approach has found application to a remarkably wide range of material systems. These include not only the conventional case of solid surfaces in ultrahigh vacuum, but also gas/solid, liquid/solid, gas/liquid and liquid/liquid interfaces. The infonnation attainable from the measurements ranges from adsorbate coverage and orientation to interface vibrational and electronic spectroscopy to surface dynamics on the femtosecond time scale. [Pg.1265]

Each type of mass spectrometer has its associated advantages and disadvantages. Quadrupole-based systems offer a fairly simple ion optics design that provides a certain degree of flexibility with respect to instrument configuration. For example, quadrupole mass filters are often found in hybrid systems, that is, coupled with another surface analytical method, such as electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis or scanning Auger spectroscopy. [Pg.552]

The apparatuses used for the studies of both ammonia synthesis emd hydrodesulfurization were almost identical, consisting of a UHV chamber pumped by both ion and oil diffusion pumps to base pressures of 1 x10 " Torr. Each chamber was equipped with Low Energy Electron Diffraction optics used to determine the orientation of the surfaces and to ascertain that the surfaces were indeed well-ordered. The LEED optics doubled as retarding field analyzers used for Auger Electron Spectroscopy. In addition, each chamber was equipped with a UTI 100C quadrupole mass spectrometer used for analysis of background gases and for Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy studies. [Pg.155]

In this paper, the bulk material was obtained by impregnation of the silica host with GFP solution and nanosised by sonication, preserving the features of both the biomolecule and the mesoporous structure. An exhaustive physical chemical characterisation of the nanosized materials was performed by structural (X-Ray Diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscopy), volumetric and optical (photoluminescence spectroscopy) techniques. [Pg.12]

Saito et at.130 studied the salts of TMTSF and the sulfur analogue tetra-methyltetrathiafulvalene, TMTTF, with a polycyano dianion. Although the conductivity of both compounds was low (crrt = 10-5 Scm-1 for TMTSF vs. 10-7 Scm-1 for TMTTF) the conductivity of the Se-donor salt was improved by two orders of magnitude. Optical absorption spectroscopy was also used to assess the materials. The electronic transition between radical cations within the segregated donor columns occurred at considerably lower energy (8800 cm-1) in the TMTSF salt than in the TMTTF (11500 cm-1). A concurrent improvement... [Pg.786]

Since for the diarylpolysilanes, as for all polysilanes, the main chain is chromophoric due to the electronic transition between the delocalized silicon a and a orbitals, the electronic spectroscopies of CD, UV-Vis, and FL are particularly powerful probes of the structures of these materials. The magnitude of dimensionless quantity, gabs, is perhaps the most useful in comparing the CD spectra of optically active poly(diarylsilane)s. [Pg.261]
