Operators normalization

The three basic types of size reduction circuits used to produce a fine product ate shown in Eigure 1. The final stages of the grinding circuit are typically operated in closed circuit, at comparatively high circulating loads, so that the material has tittle chance of being broken a second time before it is removed from the circuit by a classifier. Rod mills are operated normally in an open circuit. [Pg.396]

Ordinary diffusion involves molecular mixing caused by the random motion of molecules. It is much more pronounced in gases and Hquids than in soHds. The effects of diffusion in fluids are also greatly affected by convection or turbulence. These phenomena are involved in mass-transfer processes, and therefore in separation processes (see Mass transfer Separation systems synthesis). In chemical engineering, the term diffusional unit operations normally refers to the separation processes in which mass is transferred from one phase to another, often across a fluid interface, and in which diffusion is considered to be the rate-controlling mechanism. Thus, the standard unit operations such as distillation (qv), drying (qv), and the sorption processes, as well as the less conventional separation processes, are usually classified under this heading (see Absorption Adsorption Adsorption, gas separation Adsorption, liquid separation). [Pg.75]

When the process is operating normally, no alarms should be triggered. Within the electric utihty industry, this design objective is known as darkboard. Application of darkboard is especially important in batch plants, where much of the process equipment is operated intermittently. [Pg.770]

Cycles of concentration involved with cooling-tower operation normally range from three to five cycles. Below three cycles of concentration, excessive blowdown quantities are required and the addition of acid to limit scale formation should be considered. [Pg.1165]

Recovery of the solvent, sometimes by chemical means but more often by distillation, is almost always required, and the recoveiy system ordinarily is considered an integral part of the absorption-system process design. A more efficient solvent-stripping operation normally will result in a less costly absorber because of a smaller concentration of residual dissolved solute in the regenerated solvent however, this may increase the overall cost of solvent recoveiy. A more detailed discussion of these and other economic considerations is presented later in this section. [Pg.1351]

Variable blade pitch control The impeller blade angle is varied when the fan is in operation, normally only for axial flow fans. [Pg.1438]

This mode of batch rectification requires the continuous adjustment of the reflux to the colunrn in order to achieve a steady overhead distillate composition. Starting with a kettle obviously rich in the more volatile component, a relatively low reflux ratio will be required to achieve the specified overhead distillate composition. With time, the reflux ratio must be continuously increased to maintain a fixed overhead composition. Ultimately, a practical maximum reflux is reached and the operation normally would be stopped to avoid distillate contamination. [Pg.50]

Some fluid power systems, even when operated normally, may temporarily develop excessive pressure. For example, when an unusually strong work resistance is encountered, system pressure may exceed design limits. Relief valves are used to control this excess pressure. [Pg.612]

Operator s station That position where an operator normally stands to operate or observe the machine. [Pg.639]

According to the AMC News article authorities summed up the report by pointing out that the incident was not the direct result of normal operations, but rather was the result of an unusual condition, and that the design and operating procedures were not unsafe when considered in the context of the total hazardous environment. The process in the nitration and purification building was operating normally when the rubber hose was introduced into the system. [Pg.267]

Catalytic incineration has been appHed in the abatement of chlorinated VOC emissions in the pharmaceutical industry. The major compounds in the emission mixture are dichloromethane, perchloroethylene, dimethylformamide, oxitol, and toluene. The incinerator operates normally at 400-500 °C, but when emissions contain perchloroethylene the temperature is increased up to 500-600 °C. The emission mixture also contains water, which pushes the selectivity further toward HCl formation instead of formation of CI2. After oxidation, the product gases are washed with NaOH scrubbers. The purification level of over 99% can be achieved with the incinerator, the activity of which has been shown to be very stable after one year of continuous operation [69-71]. [Pg.153]

Painting wastewater generally consists of quench water. Wastewater from this operation is generally less toxic than wastewater from the other general operations normally, only the following pollutants are expected to exceed 10 pg/L oil and grease, fluorides, TSS, iron, zinc, bis(2-ethyl-hexyl) phthalate, and diethyl phthalate. [Pg.276]

Check the rifle to be sure the safety and firing mechanism operate normally. [Pg.19]

The detection and alarm circuits of fire and gas detection systems should be continuously supervised to determine if the system is operable. Normal mechanisms provide for a limited current flow through the circuits for normal operation. During alarm conditions current flow is increased while during failure modes the current level is nonexistence. By measuring levels at a control point the health of the circuit or monitoring devices can be continuously determined. End-of-line-resistors (EOLR) are commonly provided in each circuit to provide supervisory signal levels to the control location. [Pg.192]

Only a couple of my friends or anyone at work has seen me when I m hit like that. Usually I operate normally. It s almost like acting. I m so used to having my brain get kind of swollen if I get hit by perfume or something, and I know that I m going to get back to normal within a matter of minutes or hours or even a day after the person leaves. But when I get hit with the worst stuff, it s like I give up. The chemical takes such a hold on me I almost give in to it. I can t function anymore, and I m not sure I m going to get back. [Pg.25]

As I became more and more sensitive over the last five or six years, I was seeing a therapist. That helped, just to talk about it with the therapist and my husband and my family. There s only one person out of my group of friends who I really feel understands. It s still hard for people who don t have this to understand. It s only when times are really bad, which is infrequent, that it s an issue. Most of my friends don t wear perfume, and no one at work wears perfume anymore. Every year I put out a memo at the beginning of the year saying Thank you so much for your kindness and thoughtfulness and your awareness of my sensitivities to fragrances. People really appreciate it. They want to do whatever will work. And I operate normally. [Pg.27]

The term chemostat refers to a tank fermentation which is operated continuously. This bioreactor mode of operation normally involves sterile feed (Xo=0), constant volume and steady state conditions, meaning that dV/dt=0, d(VSd/ dt=0, d VX1)/dt=0. [Pg.126]

A centrifugal pump will operate normally at a point on its total head against capacity characteristic curve until the available NPSH falls below the required NPSH curve. Beyond this point, the total head generated by a centrifugal pump falls drastically as shown in Figure 4.6 as the pump begins to operate in cavitation conditions. [Pg.148]

In some processes, especially those with low air turn-over rate and poor filtration, it is unclear in the time allowable by process constraints that the PEL can be achieved. In other words, the process may not operate normally for more than two hours... [Pg.109]

Weaving Humiducts on Well Mater ACP-2, ACP-3. Figure 6 shows a weave room test wherein it was not practical to install low solids water. In this test, the atomizers were either operated normally or turned off for 30 to 45 minutes (ACP-2) or the looms stood and the atomizers were left on and turned off (ACP-3). The air-conditioning consists of humiducts operating on relatively high water hardness. The humiducts had good return air filtration but no mist elimination. [Pg.118]
