Onion distribution

The nitrogen adsorption isotherms for the onion-like Fe-modified MLV-0.75 materials are of type IV, although their hysteresis loops are of complex types, HI, H2, and H3. The H2-type hysteresis loop indicates the presence of bottle-shaped pores. The pore sizes obtained with the BJH method can be assigned to entry windows of mesopores. For pure MLV-0.75 and Fe-modified MLV-0.75 (x = 1.25), the pore size distributions exhibit two peaks (Fig. Id). The first peak appears at 9.0 and ca. 6 nm for MLV-0.75 and Fe-MLV-0.75, respectively. The shift of the broad peak maximum of the distribution curve... [Pg.194]

Avoid foods that may generate dryness Patients who suffer from the syndrome of dryness should avoid spicy food and food that induces heat, such as hot pepper, onion, cinnamon and deep-fried food. Very sour food, such as citrus fruits and vinegar, should not be consumed in excess as they may make the fluid distribution slow or even stop. [Pg.350]

Many atomic models were imagined by scientists, but these were not ideas proposed from the direct observation of atoms. One of the models was like grapes distributed throughout a cake, another like the solar system and another like the layers of an onion. [Pg.8]

Figure 21.2 Assembly of mesosfructured hybrids, (a) Nanoparticles smaller than the darker gray block s R0 are miscible and assemble into a lamellar structure, (b) Nanoparticles larger than the darker gray block s R0 segregate, forming a nanoparticle-rich core around which lamellae assemble into an onion-type structure, (c) This can be used to generate compositionally heterogeneous nanostructures from tailored nanoparticle size distributions.10 (Reprinted with permission from S. Se Speciation in Plants The presence of a number of volatile Se species was reported in edible allium plants such as garlic by GC-AES [79]. Selenomethionine, Se-methylselenocysteine, and y-glutamyl-Se-methyl-L-seleno cysteine were identibed in garlic and onion by HPLC-ICP-MS and ES-MS/MS [80]. Selenomethionine is the primary species found in all types of nuts (19D25 percent of the total Se) [30], sunBower [81], and mushrooms [36, 37], The distribution of Se among different fractions (lipid extract, low molecular weight, and protein fractions) of nuts and speciation analysis was studied [30]. Selenium was not detected in any of the lipid extracts obtained from the different types of nuts [30], Results obtained for Brazil nuts by SEC with on-line ICP-MS detection showed that approximately 12 percent of total Se was weakly bound to proteins [30],... [Pg.522]

There have been many hybrid multiscale simulations published recently in other diverse areas. It appears that the first onion-type hybrid multiscale simulation that dynamically coupled a spatially distributed 2D KMC for a surface reaction with a deterministic, continuum ODE CSTR model for the fluid phase was presented in Vlachos et al. (1990). Extension to 2D KMC coupled with ID PDE flow model was described in Vlachos (1997) and for complex reaction networks studied using 2D KMC coupled with a CSTR ODEs model in Raimondeau and Vlachos (2002a, b, 2003). Other examples from catalytic applications include Tammaro et al. (1995), Kissel-Osterrieder et al. (1998), Qin et al. (1998), and Monine et al. (2004). For reviews, see Raimondeau and Vlachos (2002a) on surface-fluid interactions and chemical reactions, and Li et al. (2004) for chemical reactors. [Pg.23]

The naturally occurring llavones are yellow and are very widely distributed in plants. They accumulate in almost any part of a plant, from the roots to the flower petals. Unlike the anthocyanins, which are too reactive and short-lived, the much more stable llavones have, from time immemorial, been used as dyes, for they impart various shades of yellow to wool. As an example, the inner bark of one of the North American oaks, Quercus velutina, was a commercial material known as quercitron bark and much used in dyeing it contains quercetrin. The corresponding aglycone, quercetin, is one of the most widely occurring flavones, found, for example, in Chrysanthemum and Rhododendron species, horse chestnuts, lemons, onions and hops. [Pg.642]
