Oils, drying vegetable

Paint is an old technology that developed around natural materials such as unsaturated vegetable oils (drying oils), mineral pigments, and natural resins. Varnish is paint without any pigment. An example of a drying oil is... [Pg.127]

Dickinson and Meyers, 1952). It too uses propane as a selective solvent and its purpose is to concentrate the polyunsaturated triglycerides (the so-called drying oils) in vegetable oils and to extract the vitamin-A values from fish oils. The Solexol process is described in two publications (Dickinson and Meyers, 1952 Passino, 1949). Compare some descriptive phrases from an early paper with contemporary SCF developments for the case of propane-lube oil refining. [Pg.151]

Wonder Shortening. [Van Den Bergh Foods] Partially hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil, wato, vegetable mono and diglycerides, salt nonfat dry milk, TBHQ. [Pg.409]

Some extractions take the form of oils. Herbal oil is prepared by soaking the dried herb in olive oil or vegetable oil and heating the herb for an extended period of time. Oils promote the concentration of the therapeutic material and, if properly stored, extend the therapeutic life of the material for months. [Pg.151]

Combination of gilsonite with drying vegetable oils (e.g., linseed or tung oil) produces high-grade asphalt combination paints, especially if the two binder components are heated (cooked) together. [Pg.91]

Non-drying vegetable oil-based poly(ester amide) resins require a long time period and a high temperature for curing by conventional transition metal catalysed peroxide systems, such as Co-/Mn-octate/naphthate with methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP), in the presence of styrene as a... [Pg.137]

Ben oil n. Non-drying vegetable oil. The physical properties recorded vary widely... [Pg.98]

Garcia nutans oil n. Vegetable drying oil obtained from the species, Euphorbiaceae, which grows in Mexico and Venezuela. It contains over 90% of eleostearic acid and gels in less than 8 min at 282°C. It possesses the following constants Sp gr of 0.942/15°C, refractive index of 1.525, iodine value of 177.9, and saponification value of 189. [Pg.449]

In terms of flavorings, dry process flavorings (containing flavor enhancers and natural or synthetic top notes), dry vegetables, ground spices, and herbs as well as encapsulated or plated spices serve as the foundation of the flavor systems. Plated spice oils are not particularly stable and may be a problem in terms of oxidation or evaporative losses. The use of encapsulated essential oils offers greater stability, but they do not have very much intrinsic smell in the dry form and may be misjudged by the consumer in consequence. [Pg.395]

Despite their name, epoxy esters are not really epoxies. Applanan, in fact, writes that epoxy esters are best described as an epoxy-modified alkyd [20]. They are made by nfixing an epoxy resin with either an oil (drying or vegetable) or a drying oil acid. The epoxy resin does not crosslink in the manner of conventional epoxies. Instead, the resin and oil or drying oil acid are subjected to high tanperature, 240°C to 260°C and an inert atmosphere to induce an esterification reaction. The result is a binder that cures by oxidation and can therefore be formulated into one-component paints. [Pg.26]

Drying oils - These natural oils have been used for hundreds of years as film formers and binders in paints. Drying oils are vegetable or fish oils and chemically are triglycerides with the general structure shown in Figure 4. [Pg.109]
