The membrane of these EPMEs contain 1.2% chiral selector, 65.6% ortho-nitrophenyl octyl ether (o-NPOE) or dioctylsebacate (DOS) (plastifiant), 0.4% tetrakis([3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate) (TKB) in a tetra-hydrofuran solution containing the PVC (32.4% from the membrane composition) [37,42]. A 7-mm diameter circle was cut from the membrane and inserted into a electrode body along with a inner solution containing the enantiomer to be determined in a certain concentration (usually 1CT3 mol/L). [Pg.58]

Kappes et al. evaluated the potentiometric detection of acetylcholine and other neurotransmitters through capillary electrophoresis [209]. Experiments were performed on an in-house capillary electrophoresis instrument that made use of detection at a platinum wire, dip-coated in 3.4% potassium tetrakis (4-chlorophenyl) borate/64.4% o-nitrohenyl octyl ether/32.2% PVC in THF. The results were compared to those obtained using capillary electrophoresis with amperometric detection at a graphite electrode. Samples prepared in the capillary electrophoresis buffer were electrokinetically injected (7 s at 5 kV) into an untreated fused silica capillary (88 cm x 25 pm i.d.) and separated with 20mM tartaric acid adjusted to pH 3 with MgO as the running buffer. The system used an applied potential of 30 kV, and detection versus the capillary electrophoresis ground electrode. [Pg.101]

Reduction of isoanacardic aldehyde gave a methylol which could also be synthesised directly from cardanol together with formation of some of the 4,6-bis-methylol. The monomethylol compound isoanacardic alcohol was an effective solvent extractant for the borate anion (ref. 279, 293). The isomeric compound, anacardic alcohol (ref. 88) was similarly obtained from anacardic acid (ref. 180). This In conjunction with the teriary amine Aliquat 336 was highly effective for the solvent extraction of the borate anion (ref. 293). Both these substances were comparable in properties to the 2,6-bis(hydroxymethyl) derivatives of 4-t nonylphenol and to 4-t octyl-2-chloro-6-hydroxymethylphenol (ref. 294). [Pg.541]

In this work, an ionophore-based solvent polymeric membrane is cast on top of the PEDOT PSS channel in order to obtain an ion-selective organic electrochemical transistor (IS-OECT). The polymeric membrane is composed of 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether (o-NPOE, 57.2% ww), poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC, 27.9% ww), V.. V.. V. . V -i( I i i( ycloli( xyl-3-oxapentanedianii(le (ETH 129, 9.6% ww) and potassium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate (KTpCIPB, 5.4% ww), where ETH 129 is a Ca2+-selective ionophore. The channel region of the transistor that is coated by the Ca2+-selective membrane is immersed in an aqueous solution containing 0.1 M KC1 as a background electrolyte and... [Pg.270]

The chromatography of leukotriene A 4 presents certain problems since it contains an allyhc 5,6-epoxide which breaks down almost instantaneously at neutral or acidic pH. To overcome this chemical instability, alkaline chromatographic conditions are required which use a mobile phase of acetonitrile-0.01 M borate buffer, pH 10 (30 70) in combination with either an octyl or ODS colunm (Wynalda et al., 1982). As silica-based columns are somewhat labile at alkaline... [Pg.242]

The PVC matrix provides the mechanical stability. It is chemically inert and does not dissolve in water. The ionophores are lipophilic organic molecules that selectively interact with the analyte ions. The plasticizer and the lipophilic salt also play an important role in the ion-selective function. They decrease the electric resistance, increase selectivity, and influence the detection limit. As a plasticizer, bis-(2-ethylhexyl)-sebacate (DOS) or 2-nitrophenyl-octyl-ether (oNPOE) is used, while for lipophilic salt potassium-[tetrakis-4-chlorophenyl]-borate is employed most often. [Pg.182]

Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) with an average polymerization degree of 1100 was purified by reprecipitation from THF in methanol. The plasticizers or membrane solvents, di-n-octylphthalate (DOP), o-nitrophenyl octyl ether (NPOE), and 2-fluorophenyl-2-nitrophenyl ether (FPNPE) were obtained from Dojindo Laboratories. The lipophilic salt, sodium tetrakis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate (NaTFPB), was obtained from Tokyo Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. and Dojindo Laboratories. [Pg.336]

Ligand exchange reactions between M(C6F5)3 (M = B or Al) and MR3 (M = A1 or Ga) (R = Me, Et or octyl) have been explored. Aluminocenium or gallocenium borates are produced. The first example of a gallocenium cation -[(riLC5Me5)(ri -C5Me5)Ga][BF4] - has been reported. ... [Pg.151]
