A phenyl ethanol amine in which the nitrogen is alkylated by a long chain alphatic group departs in activity from the prototypes. This agent, suloctidil (43) is described as a peripheral vasodilator endowed with platelet antiaggregatory activity. As with the more classical compounds, preparation proceeds through bromination of the substituted propiophen-one ( ) and displacement of halogen with octyl amine. Reduction, in this case by means of sodium borohydride affords suloctidil (43). ... 

BH+(H20)n/BH+(H20)n 1 measured in function of the IN-OR potential are shown in Figure 6A for B = octyl amine and (n/n-1) = (1/0) and (2/1). The ion ratios are found constant as would be expected for thermal ions at equilibrium and following Castleman s61 results. The actual ion intensities, rather than the ratio, are shown in Figure 6B. These increase with increase of the IN-OR potential, an expected result since the ion transport to the orifice plate is improved by the higher drift field. A potential drop of IN-OR = 10 V was selected for the equilibria measurements because it leads to a fair intensity while keeping the ions well in the thermal range.

Figure 18 shows a two-dimensional map in which the phase behavior is plotted for a SOWA system containing mixtures of octyl acid and octyl amine for which the pH of the acid-soap transition (pH = 7) is lower than the pH for the amine-ammonium transition (pH = 9). Hence, in the 7-9 range of pH, both the acid-soap and amine-ammonium systems exhibits a WI phase behavior, which means a predominance of the ionic species.

Experiments were carried out in Europe to use benomyl, di(guanidino-octyl) amine and p-chlorophenyl-3-iodo-propargyl formal to be used in sapstain and mould preventive formulations. Laboratories, including the Western Forest Products Laboratory, are also testing new chemicals. 

Hartwick et al. (HIO) found the TCA extraction procedure less suitable for the analysis of nucleosides and bases in serum, with analytical recoveries ranging from 54 to 68%. It is believed that a 15% loss in recovery could be attributed to nucleoside and base solubility in tri-n-octyl amine/ Freon extraction medium.
